Culture Club is a series of hosted talks and tours that introduce and encourage people to connect with the cultural spaces of the city. We invite people to see, experience and learn about Dublin’s cultural places.

Throughout the summer, Culture Club will once again be hosting Talks at the Mill in Kilmainham Mill. Kilmainham Mill dates from the early 1800s and fell into dereliction after its closure in 2000. Dublin City Council purchased the Mill and has completed a programme of stabilisation works and essential repairs. Dublin City Council Culture Company is working on activating the Mill for meanwhile uses.

Talks at the Mill brings together researchers, former employers and others with an interest in the story of this important industrial site through the ages. Taking place within the grounds of this historic site, they offer a chance to learn directly about its importance from those with unique insights. The series is curated by our Social Historian Donal Fallon, who will lead the conversations. The dates for our summer series are:

Wednesday 10 June at 6 pm
Wednesday 15 July at 6 pm
Wednesday 12 August at 6 pm

These events will open for booking on a monthly basis via https://cultureclubdublin.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows.

The June Talk at the Mill with historian, researcher, and tour guide Justine Murphy is open for booking now. After the continued success of our tours, film screenings, and festival events at Kilmainham Mill, we look forward to continuing to provide new and exciting opportunities for you to explore this site.

The Dublin Festival of History is an annual free festival, brought to you by Dublin City Council , and organised by Dublin City Libraries , in partnership with the Dublin City Council Culture Company . This year the festival will celebrate its 14th edition from 26 September to 11 October.

In its first year, the festival featured 42 events. The number of events and the number of partnerships that it takes to deliver the festival has grown year on year, with last year’s festival featuring 352 events across 115 venues, attended by over 15,600 people.

In 2025 the festival worked with 90 cultural and community partners, as well as 22 branches of Dublin City Libraries. This allows us to create opportunities for diverse experiences and a wider range of activities which can deepen cultural experiences.

We're currently working on our partnerships for the 2026 festival. If you are interested in being a partner, you can find out more about the festival here or get in touch with us by emailing [email protected].

Listen to the voices of the people of Dublin through the words of Stephen James Smith . This extract is from Talk To Me. Watch the full video via the link in our bio.

In 2015 an artwork called "Dublin You Are" was created. Through the words of Stephen James Smith and a team of Dublin based artists, that project reflected the conversations and workshops we had with people all over the city then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE30AnPSznk

For the 10-year anniversary we co-produced Talk to Me with Stephen and a team of creatives including .bury
.rawlins

This new artwork reflects the voices of people across Dublin. It uses the information gathered from our Tea & Chats programme, which has consulted with the people of Dublin through ongoing conversations across the city for the past 10 years.

As part of his process for creating this piece, Stephen considered over 500 reports from the past 10 Years of the Tea & Chats programme. He met with the team who deliver this programme to learn more about the process and methodology for Tea & Chats workshops, what type of people and community groups participate in them and what they say. This was combined with his own research to write the poem.

We invite people to see, experience and learn about Dublin’s cultural places.

Culture Club is a series of hosted talks, tours and activities that introduce and encourage people to connect with the cultural spaces of the city.

Through our Culture Club programme, we are continuously working with our network of partners to develop more ways for people to access culture easily. Our series of free talks, tours, and activities encourage lasting engagement with the cultural spaces of Dublin.

We rhaveworked with our partners in to invite Culture Club participants to a series of workshops where they learned about the photographic process before getting to try it out themselves and make their own artwork.

Find out more about the workshops and how we are collaborating with our partners on longer-term experiences that are focused on creating connections between them and participants, providing more ways to explore culture.

Our Company Strategy guides us in our purpose: to create meaningful and enduring cultural connections by focusing on programme accessibility and sustainability, as well as building lasting partnerships.

We want to offer engaging and high-quality experiences that benefit both our staff and the people we engage with. We are fully committed to listening, learning what matters, and adapting.

Our strategic objectives are built around a clear sense of purpose: Why we do what we do, how we do it, and how we measure success.

These objectives are structured into three key Foundation Stones:

1. How people experience our work.
2. How we make it.
3. How it creates long-term impact.

You can read more about what each of these mean at https://www.dublincitycouncilculturecompany.ie/news/how-we-work-our-three-key-foundation-stones

Tea & Chats is our ongoing programme of informal and open conversations over a cup of tea with people about what matters to them. In a Tea & Chat session, people come together in a casual and informal setting to share their thoughts and ideas about the city, their local area and their communities.

Through our Tea & Chats programme, we have developed a relationship with Hill Street Family Resource Centre (FRC) over a number of years and we have connected with many of the families that use the centre. We also met their Parent Café Group for a Tea & Chats session, continuing our ongoing conversations with people who call Dublin home.

After being introduced to the current participants and learning about their day to day lives, there were initial discussions about what living in Dublin and the city centre area meant to them.

The conversation also explored what activities outside of Hill Street FRC the participants and their families enjoyed or were interested in, such as going to activity centres or gallery spaces.

Read more on how we listened and explored together with the new Parent Café Group: https://www.dublincitycouncilculturecompany.ie/news/tea-and-chats-a-cultural-connection-with-hill-street-family-resource-centre
