Fishamble is very sorry to hear the sad news of Patrick Sutton‘s death. Patrick worked tirelessly and had a huge influence on generations of Irish actors and theatre professionals, through his work with Team Theatre Company, as director of the Gaiety School of Acting for three decades, and his dedication to Smock Alley Theatre. May he rest in peace.

Introducing the cast of REFUGE, coming to Limerick's Tree Theatre and Dublin's Pavilion Theatre as part of Dublin Theatre Festival next month!

Holger Kraft plays Peter in REFUGE.

Holger Kraft was born in Rüsselsheim in 1971 and grew up there. After studying acting at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig, his first permanent engagement was at the Theaterhaus in Jena, where he enjoyed four successful years under the direction of Claudia Bauer. This was followed by engagements as a freelance actor in Berlin, Freiburg, Stuttgart, and Erlangen before he joined the Wuppertaler Bühnen in 2009.

In 2012, Kraft left his engagement in Wuppertal to return to freelance acting, including as a lecturer in acting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Ludwigsburg.

In 2016, Holger Kraft then moved to Theater Bonn, where he worked until recently. Holger Kraft is co-founder of Theaterhaus Sechzig90 Rüsselsheim, which has made a name for itself as an artistic community of interest.

REFUGE is our co-production with the Staatstheater Mainz, and was a huge hit recently in Germany. This production has a limited run in Ireland before returning to Germany as part of Ireland’s EU Presidency Culture Programme. It tells the story of longing, love and loss, and the human need to find a place, a home…a refuge.

🏆 We’re so delighted to have won the National Lottery Good Cause Legends Award which will allow us to continue our work with Larkin Community College 🏆

The team at FM104 surprised our General Manager Sarah Bragg-Bolger with the news, live on air, that we were not only shortlisted in the Culture & Heritage category, but had won the award.

Here’s what the judging panel had to say:
‘Fishamble is an Irish theatre company dedicated to discovering, developing and producing new Irish writing for the stage. From touring productions across the globe to bringing theatre into DEIS schools across Dublin, they champion the role of the playwright and believe that every story deserves to be told. Fishamble is helping to amplify Irish voices, break down barriers to participation and bring powerful Irish stories to audiences around the world.

Fishamble are Cultural & Heritage Legends for their fearless and innovative use of theatre as a tool for social inclusion. Judges were moved by their work with some of Dublin’s most diverse and disadvantaged young people, using storytelling as a restorative practice to rebuild trust and confidence in a community fractured by division.

In creating safe spaces where young people from over 35 different cultures found the courage to speak, many for the very first time, Fishamble proved that theatre can do far more than entertain. They are a truly legendary force for good.’
