Re-cycling: these are off-cuts from a counter-top, which was being replaced. The wood is laminated iroko. These shallow bowls were finished with a food-safe oil and would be ideal for nibbles.

I should credit someone else for the inspiration for this design of a candle holder, but cannot recall his/her name. I sketched it out as a possible project over a year ago. Overall height, without the candle, is about 150mm. It's made from scot's pine and ebonised. I will probably make a larger one in natural wood finish.....yew, laburnum or spalted beech would be atttractive.

This pair of candlesticks is made from padauk.
Padauk has a very unique reddish orange coloration, and the wood is sometimes referred to by the name vermillion.
Much of padauk comes from West Africa, but Burmese padauk is among the rarest timbers in the world.
The candles are made from maple and the barley-twist effect is carved by hand.
Making an exact pair of anything is a very challenging task in woodturning, but I'm happy with the outcome here.

Playing with spheres. A sphere makes a great stress-ball....as long as you don't throw it at someone or something!!
The sphere symbolizes harmony and balance in everyday objects, representing wholeness and unity.

This platter is 350mm in diameter. I'm not quite sure of the wood, but some think it's beech, but may be olive ash. Either way, the grain in it is fabulous.

This is my interpretation of an Irish wedding goblet. It was the custom in medieval Ireland for a man to craft a traditional Irish wedding goblet for his intended bride.
This goblet is made from two contrasting woods, to symbolise the two individuals to be married.
The goblet has two captive rings. These two rings symbolise love and unity. For so long as the rings remain unbroken, the love will thrive.
The woods used are ash and iroko.
In Celtic folklore, ash represented healing, fertility and new growth, often regarded as a sacred tree that protected against evil and lightning.
Iroko is known as “The Tree of Life” in West Africa and represents spiritual guardianship, community stability and the deep connection between the physical and spiritual worlds.
Many happy years together to the happy couple receiving this from the bride's parents.
