Announcing Doris de Vries as Dead Centre’s Associate Artist for 2026! ✨

Doris de Vries is a director, dramaturg and theatre maker. She is a director of Gift Horse Theatre, with whom she has directed four plays to date. Her 2025 Dublin Fringe Festival show don’t copy me (copy) was awarded the George Fitzmaurice Fringe Award and she made her Edinburgh Fringe directorial debut in 2025 with Swiping Right by Sophie Anna Veelenturf.

She has assistant directed Ivo van Hove, Leopold Witte, and Olivier Diepenhorst, and works as a dramaturg for emerging artists like David Roos (NL) and Dominic O’Brien (IE).

Across 2026, Doris will develop her creative practice through mentorship with Dead Centre’s Artistic Directors and immersion in the company’s creation processes. She will be Assistant Director on a new Dead Centre production, take part in the company’s development workshops, and hold a workshop on a new project of her own, fully supported and produced by Dead Centre.

Welcome Doris!

✨✨✨

Our Associate Artist programme is made possible with funding from The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and support from field:arts.

Announcing Brecht’s First Play by Dead Centre at Hong Kong Arts Festival 2026!

“I admit: this play is lacking in wisdom.” - Bertolt Brecht

Brecht wrote his first play, Baal, when he was just 20. It tells the story of an obnoxious, violent, debauched anti-hero; if the character existed today, he would be cancelled.

So that’s we’ll try to do. Get rid of him. Blur him out. Because the only responsible way to stage Baal is by removing Baal.

🗓️ 19 - 22 March 2026
📍 Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall
🎟️ Advance Booking now open at the link in our bio

★★★★★ for Deaf Republic from The Irish Times!

“Deaf Republic is avant-garde theatre at its most exciting: daring, intricate and, above all, beautiful, full of images that seem plucked straight from the dark unconscious.”

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ for Good S*x at Théâtre de Liège in Le Soir - congratulations to all the team!

"What if, in life, nothing is real, and everything is just choreography? What if this story of consent went beyond the physical and invited us to say “no” more often in life, not just to unwanted s*x, but to everything that gets in the way?

In short, Good S*x is a piece that's not only fun to watch... it's also heady stuff."

--

"Ne joue-t-on pas tous un rôle? Et si, dans l’existence, rien n’était réel, et tout n’était que chorégraphie? Et si cette histoire de consentement dépassait le cadre physique et nous invitait à dire plus souvent « non » dans la vie, pas juste au s*xe non désiré, mais à tout ce qui nous entrave?

Bref, Good S*x est une pièce où on prend son pied... mais aussi sa tête."
