"Song of the Deep Sea" - by Nikki Wong
The moon light is reflected in the water and the surface of the sea is only visible in the night. The whale can travel anywhere in the ocean she desires, but here she travels only along the surface because she is afraid of the deep sea for it is unknown to her. She feels lost despite having her freedom to travel the waters without anything physically holding her back or trapping her. The mermaid here is the "song of the deep sea". She is the voice in the deep waters and has come to comfort the whale to let her know that it's ok to feel lost, but also that there is nothing to fear and that when she lets go of this fear, she will be able to travel further and deeper into the oceans, exploring places she's never even dreamed of exploring, and that is when she will have her true freedom.
And this story is inspired by people today. Most people only walk on the surface of their full potential during their lifetime, through the physical world... fear is what holds people back and prevent them from being truly themselves. Most never delve deep inside themselves to discover who they truly are, or are comfortable being with themselves. When we have fear in our hearts we are limiting ourselves. We create our own walls and trap ourselves inside it, yet we always seem to have an excuse that the reason for this is because of some external force. Our beliefs about ourselves and how we speak to ourselves in our mind is so powerful, most people unconsciously put themselves down in their self talk and don't give themselves enough credit for the things they do and the qualities they have. YOU ARE ENOUGH. You don't need to prove to anyone because you were born enough. Everything else is just standards placed on you by social expectations, which is constantly changing, so if you are chasing that then you will never be satisfied in life.
And especially during these times with self isolation and quarantine, most people will feel disheartened, unsettled, depressed... but we should all take this time to evolve ourselves mentally. Take some time everyday and really connect with the inner voice inside you, get to know yourself better, learn about yourself. Be it god, the universe or whatever you believe in, there is a voice inside you that is always there to guide you, but most times we just choose to ignore it.
They say a picture speaks a thousand words... I don't believe I have managed to write down everything that I wanted to about this special piece of painting I did. But that's the jist of it. :) Hope you like it. Stay safe and stay at home
