The ALWAYS THE WEIRD GIRL exhibition at Trinity is coming soon. This exhibition has been in process since March of this year ….and we have been BURSTING to share it!!!

(Imagine how we felt discovering that other Fashion events coming to Trinity too!!!!!!) 🤐

On the 17th of September, the Always the Weird Girl exhibition at Trinity Dublin celebrates the remarkable 10-year collaboration between fashion designer Joanne Hynes and Dunnes Stores.

Presented in The Atrium at Trinity College Dublin over three days, and fully open to the public (!!!😯!!!) this important Irish Design exhibition traces the 10 years of creative process and design by Joanne Hynes. Tracing her first collection launched in Dunnes Grafton St in September 2016 to the new 2026 autumn launch 2026.

A curated edit of Joanne Hynes archive fashion, accessories, homeware and the new 2026 Collection collection will be displayed — telling the story of one of Ireland’s most distinctive fashion collaborations.

Born in Tuam, County Galway, Joanne Hynes studied Fashion Design at Limerick School of Art & Design (1994-1999) before completing an MA at Central Saint Martins in London (1999-2001) and establishing her fashion and accessories label in 2003 which was rooted in storytelling and craftmanship, selling worldwide.

Maroon for today for Galway. As a tribeswoman for today’s All Ireland 🇮🇪 . I didn’t have the correct cloth colours available in the studio for Limerick!!! Something to work towards for next time!!

I first designed this in 1999 made from found cloth from a factory that made sports jerseys who gave me the cloth for free at the time and kindly embroidered by Vergie Sweeney from Tuam.

Some crystal work embroideries on jerseys which we are slowly developing for next year thanks to the legendary CJ Fallon for letting me explore this memory of Irish childhood.

While it’s taking some time to take shape people have asked when it’s coming- we wonder what would your hearts desire would like to see and to wear/carry to express this story? Share below if some thing poignant hits you and we can try and make it happen 🙏 (no promises!!)

Rest in power Dad. You never once said no to me or to Paul. All I wanted as a child was you! When we had Mace on Dublin Road Tuam I asked ‘an féidir liom dul go dtí an leithreas’ (more than once- being the 80s after all!) I ran out of the Presentation Primary, running up Dublin road, past Dr Waldrons steps, the Hermitage Hotel on the right, the old court house on the left, running down the back of the shop into your arms. Different times. You in your navy stripe apron, shirt sleeves rolled like James Dean- sweeping brush aside. You lived in your inner world Dad, numbers and maths were your language and your patterns- your way of being in the world. Poker games into the morning at home when I was young and you in your prime. I helped Mam with the sandwiches for the games, and in later years you discovered bridge. Your bridge friends formed a guard of Honor for you yesterday at the Church. As a child curled onto your lap during the Incredible Hulk, me dancing in front of the TV looking for your attention. Country and westerns. Clark Gable. Scarlett Ohara. Once Upon A Time in America. The Quiet Man. You could decode Countdown, and of course the racing and the horses 24/7 which is what we will never forget! The Grand National! “Josie Hynes The Mall, Tuam” was the bookie office you ran after the shop on Dublin Road. The daily postmortem of talking to yourself under your breath, talking to yourself when driving, and when collecting me off the train in Athenry in my college years. I watched you as a child daily while shaving- hated when you left in the morning to go to work - the kettle at the top of the stairs. Frank Sinatra CDs and cigarette ash in the car in the 80s when you smoked, silvermints and spare change at your bedside locker, primary coloured bookie pens in every pocket, Josie Hynes betting slips, finding those coloured pens everywhere- even yesterday I found one when I went through your clothes - trying on your jacket to feel close to you.

Thank you Dad for all you’ve done for me and Paul.
