Alexandre Caretti is the inaugural recipient of the TBG+S and Bétonsalon Dublin/Paris Residency Exchange 2026, a new opportunity in partnership with the Embassy of France in Ireland, Dublin City Council and the Embassy of Ireland France - Ambassade d'Irlande en France. The residency exchange is an annual award that supports a visual artist living or working in France to spend two months living in Dublin to work from a studio at TBG+S. TBG+S looks forward to welcoming Caretti, who will begin his residency in June 2026. In return, a Dublin-based artist will spend time focusing on artistic research in Bétonsalon, Paris, October–November 2026. The recipient will be announced following selection through an open call process.

Alexandre Caretti’s work often forms an ambiguous and equivocal narrative that emerges from a focus on intimate doubts, fuelled by contemporary political questions such as the economy, work, love, and the art world’s ecosystems.

Caretti’s practice recently has focussed on the intimate and political relationships which exist within Europe and how they inform cultural identities. Having explored the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Caretti continues his research in Ireland, which will host the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July–December 2026.

Alexandre Caretti: “I'm glad that my journey across Europe can find its way to Ireland, which will host the next presidency of the EU Parliament Council. This will be my first step on Irish soil. To put words on my intuitions, there's something between shamrocks, stars and heaven that I need to dig into deeper, because behind these often hide a lot more ambivalent stories. Behind the shamrock that we see in every souvenir shop lies the history of Ireland; behind the corporate tax haven, a not-so-blissful system; and behind the stars of the EU, a mixed feeling made of utopia and deceptions. I am grateful as the residency will allow me to build on my existing work to strengthen my ongoing project around hopes and disillusions that revolve around a shared European identity."

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios (TBG+S) and Bétonsalon are pleased to announce Alexandre Caretti as the inaugural recipient of the TBG+S and Bétonsalon Dublin/Paris Residency Exchange 2026.

📣 Temple Bar Gallery + Studios would like to congratulate Studio and Board member 𝗜𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗻 on 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘬, her commission for the 61st International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia.

The Venice Art Biennale is the most important global platform for the exhibition of visual arts involving the public, members of civil society, individuals and institutions. It offers a unique opportunity for Irish artists to engage with international audiences. TBG+S wishes Nolan, curator Georgina Jackson, The Douglas Hyde Gallery of Contemporary Art, and producer Cian O’Brien, the best of luck with their presentation and wish them success with this significant achievement.

The exhibition is commissioned by Culture Ireland in partnership with the The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and is on view at the Irish Pavillon, 09 May – 22 November 2026.

Responding to this year’s theme, 𝘐𝘯 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘒𝘦𝘺𝘴 – selected by the late Koyo Kouoh, curator of La Biennale, the Irish Pavilion is entitled 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘬 and emerges from Nolan’s examination of the fifteenth-century Venetian printer Aldus Manutus and his creation of the paperback. Nolan’s work varies from monumental to intimate in scale, allowing the audience to vacillate between wonder and unease, and grounding us in the artist’s question of “how to love a tumultuous world, an indifferent universe, and humans that are so often awful to each other.”

As a Six Year Studio Member and longstanding Board member, Nolan has made many contributions to TBG+S. In addition to Nolan’s representation, TBG+S would like to congratulate valued Studio member 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗻, Irish artist 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗿 and studio alumnus 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻 on their inclusion in 𝘐𝘯 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘒𝘦𝘺𝘴. 👏

📩 Join us for the opening reception of 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗰𝗮 𝗠𝗼𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗮's new multi-channel video work and sculptural installation, 𝘕𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘨𝘪𝘴𝘮, Thursday 14 May 2026, 6–8pm.

The exhibition explores nostalgia as a characteristic of contemporary anxiety, and its instrumentalisation through neoliberal socio-economic systems. This research continues from Moccia’s long-term work, 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, which similarly investigates the political context of psychological and emotional states of being. The origins of nostalgia mirror the emergence of Western modernisation and the onset of the Industrial Revolution. Its connection to feelings of homesickness began to also represent a longing across physical and temporal spaces for those separated from their homelands through migration, labour and military service. Setting aside sentimentality, Moccia exposes how nostalgia is exploited to govern and direct emotions by evoking an idealised past and driving nationalistic and ideological interests.

It was wonderful visiting the Embassy of Ireland, Great Britain to discuss the success of Faigh Amach, a partnership with Southwark Park Galleries and Culture Ireland.

This partnership brought together three artists selected through an open call process: Ella Bertilsson, Kathy Tynan, Emily Waszak; resulting in the group exhibition Faigh Amach at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. At. the end of the exhibition, Emily Waszak was invited to present their first international solo exhibition at SPG Lake Gallery in April 2026.

The TBG+S and Bétonsalon Dublin/ Paris Residency Exchange 2026 is an annual award that supports a visual artist living or working in Dublin to spend time focusing on artistic research in Paris. The residency is hosted by Bétonsalon — centre for art and research, which is located within the Université Paris Cité. The organisation is one of the earliest organisations in France to recognise art’s position at the crossroads of various fields of research, linking artistic practices to their cultural contexts, and asserting feminist and decolonial positions. The exchange also supports French artists to live in Dublin and work from a studio at TBG+S.

The awarded artist will have time to develop research, engage with an international art scene, build professional networks, engage with a community of French and international resident artists, and visit museums, galleries and other cultural organisations in a major European city.

This is a new opportunity in partnership with the Ambassade de France en Irlande, Dublin City Arts Office and the Embassy of Ireland France - Ambassade d'Irlande en France.

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios invites applications from visual artists for a new opportunity in partnership with the Embassy of France in Ireland, Dublin City Council Arts Office and the Embassy of Ireland, France.

✏️ Each cap comes with pencil inscribed with the words 'Bounce Back!' and a custom-designed, 3D-printed pencil holder!

Specially designed for Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Léann Herlihy's striking 𝘖𝘕 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘙𝘖𝘗𝘌𝘚 cap blends archival fragments, female wrestling messaging and noughties emoticons as a symbolic embracing of collapse as a force for change. The artist encourages the wearer to hold space for the transformative power of collapse, a position which counters the modern-day neoliberal narrative that we all must be 'resilient', and simply 'bounce back' through labour to meet the daily demands. 𝘖𝘕 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘙𝘖𝘗𝘌𝘚 celebrates the great number of strained bodies, and those who resist flexibility, in favour of challenging the status quo and shattering a system which never served us.

🔵🎾🔵🎾🔵🎾🔵🎾🔵🎾🔵🎾🔵🎾

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂!

A big thank you to everyone who came to the launch of 𝘖𝘕 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘙𝘖𝘗𝘌𝘚, and for making it such a successful evening. With special thanks to Léann Herlihy, for their hard work and dedication in making it all happen. Thank you to 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗦𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗻, who skilfully guided attendees through the process of screen printing their own custom 𝘖𝘕 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘙𝘖𝘗𝘌𝘚 tote bags. And finally, a thank you to the wonderful Black Church Print Studio and 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗖𝗵𝗶 𝗞𝗼𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗮 for their kind and generous support of the event.
