The Joinery

The Joinery The Joinery is a DIY, not-for-profit art and project space and studios in Dublin that was set up in late 2007.

Since then we have been curating, programming and facilitating the work of artists, curators and musicians in the gallery and project space. The Joinery is interested in event-based works; performances, talks, gigs, screenings

Still trying to digest the devastating news of Conor's passing. Such a wonderfully talented, committed composer and performer and a gentle soul who was always a pleasure to be around. We were lucky enough to have him play the Joinery a number of times, Cowtown festival (in Niamh & Adrian's front room!) His passing is shocking and he will be hugely missed. His legacy lives on. RIP Conor x

Wishing we were still in D7 to go and support our neighbours in Grangegorman who are trying to hold on to something good and strong that they have created as a community in a city that is obsessed with commodification. There is spirit...

If you're into your obscure music, obscure music-makers and general outsiders then this has gotta be on your list for the Dublin Film Festival this year. Made by Joinery co-founder Feargal Ward and friend and colleague Tadhg O'Sullivan http://www.jdiff.com/festival-2015/movie/yximalloo/ ... fyi Yxi did a couple of gigs at the big J too so if you were there you're probably in it. Innit.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Just a quick hello and update from the ghost of Joineries past. We are now officially closed and have vacated the building; a sad and somewhat messy affair. God that place was dirty.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all so much for your support and friendship over the years. We are greatly indebted to all of the artists that we have worked with over the last seven years, and to a loyal and committed audience. We are deeply grateful for all of the help, support and advice received from many advocates and friends. We had a ball, we hope you did too.

We would also like to welcome Kaethe-Burt O’Dea to the building at 6 Rosemount Terrace, Arbour Hill. Kaethe and her organisation Desireland are taking the lease on the building. Desireland is a not-for-profit community based project that runs the Lifeline Project, SPUDS and the Sitric Compost Garden Community amongst many other endeavours. You can find more about what she does here http://desireland.ie/516/. We wish her very well and look forward to seeing what she does with the place.

If you would like to get in touch with either Miranda or Will (for example to claim or even buy a Live at the Joinery CD) you can do so by sending your carrier pigeon to [email protected] or [email protected]. You can follow Jonathan and Deborah at and www.facebook.com/gadetra respectively and you are likely to find Ivan at any decent gig in Dublin; go find him.

So that’s it.

Please don’t be strangers, we may have scattered to various parts of Dublin, Cork and Berlin but we are still just about alive and very much keen to keep in touch, work with you again and hear about your creative projects.

Over and out from the big J.

Desireland works on two levels: The consultancy develops and manages healthcare research programmes for clients. The principles that emerge in the process of this professional work are then further developed in not for profit community based demonstration projects. Examples include the Lifeline Proj…
