Dir. Alex Fegan

Through the prism of the confession box, which has its origins in Ireland, ‘Sins of Ireland’ is a portrait of an overlooked aspect of Ireland’s past and how it impacted many parts of the world.

Fifteen Irish priests, known for hearing the confessions of others, outline what the sacrament of confession was supposed to be and, while confessing the sins of the church, what it became.

Filmmaker Alex Fegan (Coco’s Law, The Essence of Eva, Sins of Ireland) presents his first narrative feature.

𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀?

When struggling artist, photographer and father Eoin Murphy (Johnny Elliott) tells his young daughter the truth about Santa Claus, he unwittingly sparks a public backlash that spirals far beyond his family. He finds himself at the centre of a very public onslaught and is forced to battle for truth in a world distracted by myths, lies and commercialism.

Boldly shot in black & white, Murphy Vs Christmas is a darkly satirical, yet heartfelt drama set in contemporary Dublin. This anti-fairytale explores the spectrum of human emotion during the holiday season’s relentless commercialism.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: Johnny Elliott, John Connors, Tania Notaro, Fernanda Bastos & Maisy Crowley

“The film is based on a real person I knew, a brilliant but disillusioned artist who was always in pursuit of truth, no matter what the cost. I was always a huge admirer of anyone with strong principles such as that, particularly if they go against the popular grain, because that’s the hardest thing to do.”

– Alex Fegan, Writer/Director, on the genesis of Murphy Vs Christmas
