❗There's just one week left to apply to take part in Making Music in Limerick: The Music Network Teaching Residency - applications close on Friday 5 June at 2pm❗

💫The focus of this project is to bring the joy of playing music and group music-making back into the lives of Limerick residents ages 60+. Life gets busy and things we enjoy can get left behind, so we want to give you the opportunity to pick up an instrument you used to play and start playing again with the help of renowned musicians Derek Hickey (accordion), Tara Breen (fiddle) and Tommy Hayes (Bodhrán).

Check out our short video from our previous residency with glór and Clare Arts Office to see what the project is all about.

✨This year we're celebrating 40 years of Music Network, and to mark the occassion, we've been catching up with some of the wonderful musicians who have been part of our programmes over the years, to talk about their own musical journeys and why they play.

🎼 We recently caught up with singer-songwriter Patrick Stefan, whose genre-blending folk music beautifully weaves together traditional and contemporary influences.

In 2024, Patrick was appointed Musician-in-Residence at St. John’s Theatre & Arts Centre, Listowel, as part of our first residency specifically designed for a professional musician who is autistic/person with autism. Most recently, he joined us as a tutor on the Wicklow Teaching Residency, supporting Wicklow residents aged 55+ to reconnect with instruments they once played and rediscover the joy of making music.

✨ Playing a musical instrument brings so many benefits, from boosting wellbeing to building confidence and connection. If you’ve been thinking about starting or returning to an instrument, why not take the first step today?

🎵 Music Network’s Instrument Hub is Ireland’s national information resource, helping musicians and organisations at all levels to find out how or where they can hire, borrow, purchase, repair or access funding for instruments.

A promenade opera at twilight.

Before the first song, the garden remembered everything....

In this fresh reimagining of the Orpheus myth, music, ecology, and ancient storytelling entwine in the living landscape of Ireland’s National Botanic Gardens. Audiences follow Glasnevin’s garden-path of love and loss, curiosity and consequence, guided by musicians, children’s choirs and some unexpected creatures.

From sunlit lawns to shadowed bowers, leafy backdrops to underworld crossings, and fleeting images cast across the garden, they encounter a world where fungi speak, decay becomes renewal, and the myth grows anew.

With humour, tenderness, and wonder, Orpheus in the Garden invites us to ask what lies beneath … and how love, like compost, can nourish more than we know.

📆27 & 28 May at 8.30pm
