The Playback Company

The Playback Company An improv troupe that takes true stories from the audience's lives and turns them into spontaneous moments of theatre before your very eyes. The show starts.

We all have stories to tell. There's the stories you tell at parties, and the ones you tell on a first date. There's stories that begin with "You won't believe what just happened!" and "Did I ever tell you about the time..." and "Wait til you hear about last night!" There's the story of your day, your week, your life. The Playback Company wants to hear your stories. Here's what happens: you come a

long, you get a drink, you sit down. There are performers on stage, and a conductor (they're like the M.C.) who gets the ball rolling. We just need something small to start with, a moment from your day. Then the magic begins: we take that moment and turn it into a piece of spontaneous theatre right before your very eyes. It'd be giving the game away to tell you exactly what we do and because the audience is different every night, it means that each show is unique. (And you don't have to have tell a story if you don't want to, you can just come and watch, that's okay too.) It's called Playback because that's what we do: we listen to these moments from your life and play them back to you. And the great things is that it works with everything, from the fleeting glimpse of an old flame in the street to that epic night of inter-railing debauchery. Sad stories, funny stories, scary stories, all that matters is that they're your stories. We just need to borrow them for a little while.
