Billy Hughes passed away last night.
Born in Cabra in 1937, he was 88 in May.
During the Cabaret boom of the 70s, he was resident MC in The Drake Inn. He introduced many international entertainers onto the hallowed stage including Matt Munro, The Searchers, Guy Mitchell, Frankie Laine and Frank Ifield.
He spent 13 years in Lanzarote entertaining the travelling public, returning to his old circuit in Dublin in 2017. He was resident on Mondays in The Shamrock Lodge in Finglas.
