🌳 This October sees the international debut of Unmasking Nature by AlanJames Burns, presented at Luftanje Scena Ribnjak in Zagreb, Croatia, and 180° Laboratory for Innovative Art Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria. Supported by the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists (EFFEA) and Culture Ireland, this work explores the connections between nature, biodiversity and neurodiversity.

Across both festival locations, AlanJames Burns presents ‘Stimming with Nature’ an audiovisual artwork made with artist Emma Mohan O’Grady, alongside installations made from ethically foraged natural materials. Responding to the environments encountered in Croatia and Bulgaria, Alan undertakes site-specific sensory foraging, creating collections of natural objects for audiences to explore and interact with through touch. These works explore the capacity of nature’s textures and forms to act as tactile aids for grounding & sensory regulation.

🪴 At the heart of Unmasking Nature is a question: What does it mean to be neurodivergent in nature? Through texture, pattern, movement and sensory experience, the work considers how nature can provide tactile tools for grounding and sensory regulation, while drawing parallels between the resilience of ecosystems and the diverse ways people experience and move through the world.

Neurodiversity is biodiversity, and both thrive with the freedom to grow.

Tackling eco-ableism by opening up conversations around access, inclusion and climate action through participatory arts practice, Unmasking Nature connects audiences across Europe with the vibrancy of both natural and human diversity.

🤩 Culture Ireland are delighted to support Irish Poet, Bernadette Gallagher, at the Kistrech International Poetry Festival.

☘️ The Festival Director, Dr. Christopher Okemwa shared that "We have not had an Irish poet since the Kistrech Poetry Festival began in 2013. We are so much blessed to have Bernadette Gallagher this year, 2026. Carrying the powerful motto 'The Word is Not Alone, It is Part of the Whole,' this philosophy is the guiding principal at this year's Kistrech international Poetry Festival. We shall take poetry to every corner of our region, including schools, universities, villages, national parks and museums."

The Festival is organised by Kistrech Theatre International and will bring together poets and literary voices from Africa, Europe, Asia and the Arab world. Carrying the powerful motto “The Word is Not Alone; It is Part of the Whole,” the festival presents poetry as a meeting point between cultures, languages, communities and artistic traditions.

Its 2026 programme combines poetry readings, cultural visits, community engagement, university activities, book donations and encounters in some of Kenya’s distinctive cultural and natural settings.

🤩 Culture Ireland are thrilled to support the performance of 'ZINC' this Friday at NTGent Schouwburg, Belgium.

'ZINC' is a major international co-production between Dead Centre, Théâtre de Liege, NTGent, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg.

🗺️ Dead Centre’s adaptation of David Van Reybrouck’s masterful 'Zinc' explores the way the human body becomes a map — a contested site where the struggles of politics and history determine who we are. What does history do to a human life?

This is the story of something that came into existence by accident, was found to be malleable and easily exploited, was extracted from its place of origin and sent to far-off places. Something that was used in a variety of ways, for a variety of causes. That something was a man called Joseph Rixen. The story of Zinc begins …

👥 The story begins in 2025 in a theatre in Liège, with an audience sitting in a room watching a play. The audience is united by something. Inside the bodies of every single person is a large repository of a trace metal: zinc, used in the body to help the immune system fight off invading viruses. If called upon, it is ready to fight.
