Trinity Musical Theatre - TMT

Trinity Musical Theatre - TMT The Trinity Musical Theatre Society is a student-based musical society founded in 2016 within Trinity College Dublin. Absolutely no skill or talent required!

Once upon a time in Trinity College, songs of glee rang across the famous Front Square cobbles. For years, DUMADS, the musical theatre society of its generation, performed classics such as My Fair Lady, Wild Violets, Chicago and many more. Sadly however, it was the fat lady who sang its final verse and DUMADS was no more.

21 years, 3 provosts and 4012 meetings with the CSC later, we are delighted

to present to you the Trinity Musical Theatre Society. We want to celebrate the historic work of DUMADs by producing and staging high quality musical theatre productions all while injecting a lil slice of merriment back to campus. As a TMTS member you will have the opportunity to hone your skills, be it as a performer, musician, technical officer or production team member, make new friends and most importantly, have a bit of craic along the way! Tone-deaf theoretical physicist or the next BNOB (Big Name On Broadway), TMTS want YOU! For more info about how you can get involved come visit us at the Fresher’s Fair in Front Square next week or drop us an email at [email protected]! Introducing our director for the Spring 2023 TMT Production… Beth Strahan! We are so delighted to share this news and incredibly excited for the year ahead!

Read below to find out a little more about the wonderful Ms. Strahan!

“Beth is a third-year Arts student at Trinity who, with what once was an extra-curricular hobby, has taken her passion for performance to a career level by studying Drama and Theatre Studies. With a specific focus on Musical Theatre, Beth has paved her way as a performer throughout the years, taking on principal roles such as Roxie Hart in the JH Academy of Theatre Arts’ “Chicago” (2019), as well as Cinderella in Trinity Musical Theatre’s own online production of “Into The Woods” (2021). Recognising her strengths on and off the stage, Beth made her directorial debut with the JCR Trinity Hall’s 2022 musical “Legally Blonde”. What Beth found most rewarding from this experience was the ability and agency to execute her own artistic vision on such an iconic storyline- something which she hopes to find in whatever production TMT stages in early 2023.

Beth has been all things theatre since she made her first appearance as a duckling in the ensemble of “Honk! The Musical” at the tender age of twelve, and cannot wait to take on this challenge as director. This is not only to continue the spectacular legacy that is TMT into its seventh session, but to prove to that same little girl that maybe there is a chance of making it in this industry.”

CONGRATULATIONS to Rachel Galvin and Dan Whelan on winning Best Comedienne and Comedian at the 2022 AIMS awards in the Sullivan category.

The pair were awarded for their exquisite performance in our 2022 production of Guys and Dolls within their roles of Nathan Detroit and Adelaide.

A major triumph for the pair and for TMT as a whole! Very well deserved for all of their hard work over the past years in TMT. We can only expect to see more great things from them in the coming years!

Our Story

The Trinity Musical Theatre Society (TMT) was founded in 2016 within Trinity College Dublin, and has gone from strength to strength since. With the principal aim of staging a large-scale musical production every year, TMT has reached its aim and smashed expectations every year. From West Side Story, to Evita, and now Chicago, the Trinity Musical Theatre Society has been performing to sold-out audiences in the O’Reilly Theatre since day one. Fostering professionalism throughout the cast and production team, we give students the opportunity to hone their creativity and make friendships that will last a lifetime.

Outside of our annual production, we strive to make the impact of musical theatre felt across campus. From guest speakers and patrons including Patti LuPone (Evita, Company) Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked) and Rachel Tucker (Wicked, Come From Away), collaborations with a wide array of societies, and participation in the annual All-Ireland Musical Theatre Intervarsities, TMT has made the presence of musical theatre felt across Trinity’s campus. We were honoured to pick up the award for Best New Society at the 2018 Society of the Year Awards, as well as Best Choreography for Evita (Cisca Devereux & Katie Mirocha) at the 2018 Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) awards.

With a buzzing and growing membership, the Trinity Musical Theatre Society is always excited to hear from prospective members. If you have any questions or queries, do not hesitate to get in contact with us via Facebook or email ([email protected]).
