Free* 30 minute cello concerts popping up at the following venues and times around Dublin City for Spike Weekend!
10.30am: Cellophonics - The Ark
- What’s better than one cello? Four cellos!
Champions of all things cello, Christopher Allan, Michael Atkinson, Adrian Bradbury and Ben Rogerson make up the quartet Cellophonics. Their performances brim with warmth and sparkle with virtuosity, bringing to life the contrasting characteristics of the cello.
12.30pm: Katie Tertell cello - sculpture hall, Parnell Square N, Rotunda
- An exploration of cello sounds modern and timeless. A moving soundscape of works by composers Domenic Salerni (world premiere!), Ailbhe McDonagh and Hollie Harding and some inspired improvisation from Appalachia.
2.00pm: Yseult Cooper Stockdale cello and Shelly O’Connor (Steel Magnolias)
44 Park Shopping Centre, Prussia St, Stoneybatter
- ‘Hair Piece’ live haircut with cello in homage to Unit 44’s previous incarnation as a hairdressing salon.
3.00pm: Ben Cashell cello/vocals- HLG sculpture hall Parnell Square N, Rotunda
- Original tunes, covers plus some trad tunes thrown in.
4.00pm: Marmosets cellos/electronics (Mary Barnecutt and Lioba Petrie)
Moli 86 St Stephen's Green, Saint Kevin's
Long-term artistic collaborators and friends Mary Barnecutt and Lioba Petrie gather some of their thoughts, melodies and musings in ' Marmosets' a duo cello project that combines their humour, fury and love of a good folk tune into live performance.
*Free with admission to Moli, performance 4pm (duration 30 mins).
