Art School

Art School Art School is a project founded by Jennie Guy. It focuses on establishing new interfaces between contemporary art and sites of education. Other! Mary’s and St.

Art School is invested in a longer-term enquiry into pedagogical shifts in education through the means of art. Art School takes place as a series of independent projects, exhibitions, workshop and residency programmes, bringing active contemporary artists into educational systems to inspire and expand their teachings. Art School has worked on many projects including:

The politics of representation as evidenced in the historical genre of group portraiture occupies a central concern of my practice as an artist. The depiction of groups and related individuals is an image-construct to which I have returned to in my work time and again. The history of this genre of painting; large scaled paintings depicting organizations, societies and guilds provided a point of discourse for the class to consider; how images and artworks have influenced and applied meaning to the formation of identities of commonality or shared purposes (ages, professions, classes, genders etc.) within the breath of contemporary society. - Image of the self with and amongst others; Mark O’Kelly
