Athrú literally means change or transformation (as gaeilge) in the Irish language and therefore it is symbolic of my changing path in life, my love of gach rudaí gaeilge (all things Irish) and how I create art using found, foraged, pre-loved and everyday materials, transforming their original use into a new aesthetic. I am an artist & arts educator that believes art has the power to not only trans
form a blank canvas but it can also alter how you feel and how you see the world. For almost 20 years I have taught art in many guises in mainstream education and in the youth and community sector. It has been truly rewarding to encourage and enable people of all ages and abilities to connect with their own creativity but now it's time to concentrate on my own art to share with the world. I work in many mediums but printmaking with mixed media is my go to and my work is inspired by the cultural heritage of Ireland both historical & contemporary. This page is not just a platform to promote my artwork but it will document my journey to become a successful artist in my own right, which hopefully will not just give you a better insight into my artistic life but will also serve as a learning tool for any other creatives thinking of following a likeminded dream.
