were delighted to recently host Belonging: Three-Day Creative Arts Workshop at the Smashing Times Visual Art Gallery. Together with our partners Théâtre & Réconciliation, the three-day event explored themes of nature, belonging and a shared European identity, and held an open ‘Poetry Day’ to celebrate Poetry Day Ireland. Artists on the day included Frédérique Lecomte, Mary Moynihan, Florence Marchand, Camille Léonard, Freda Manweiler and Ciara Hayes.

Presented as part of the European project WE AREurope, exploring shared European values of human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, diversity, human rights, gender equality, and peace.

Enjoy a Tintreach Creative Writing Workshop conducted to support and facilitate collaboration between artists, creative practitioners and local communities in Uíbh Ráthach, fostering a vibrant cultural hub. The Tintreach Creative Writing Workshop takes place at The Old Barracks Cahersiveen, Saturday 6 June 2026, 2-4pm and explores writing skills, sparks creativity and builds creative connections, listening to what artists want as well as offering information on the forthcoming open submission call for Tintreach: The Smashing Times Arts and Literary Journal. Edition VII of Tintreach: The Smashing Times Arts and Literary Journal is a special bi-lingual edition featuring the work of six artists from Uíbh Ráthach, the Iveragh Peninsula, County Kerry.

Implemented by Smashing Times International Centre for the Arts and Equality in partnership with The Barracks Heritage Centre, Cahersiveen, and ACARD Community Development Limited, Cahersiveen. Supported by Cumas Ceantar Creative Places Uíbh Ráthaigh, The Arts Council and the the Ciste Beag Ealaíon – Micro Arts Fund 2026, Kerry County Council, and Failte Ireland.

Eternal Rebels: Irish Women Changemakers is a visual art exhibition by Mary Moynihan blending photography, poetry and storytelling highlighting the lives of 12 women changemakers in Irish history. The Barracks Heritage Centre has three floors of immersive exhibitions, historical artefacts and panoramic turret views telling stories of the Royal Irish Constabulary, the Fenian Rising, and the local people who shaped history including the story of Irish politician Daniel O’Connell, known as the liberator. Artist Mary Moynihan has a series of storyboard artworks on display in various locations throughout the building under the title of Eternal Rebels highlighting the extraordinary stories of women changemakers in Irish history. Eternal Rebels can be seen as part of the normal entrance fee to The Barracks Heritage experience – an exhibition within an exhibition.

The Smashing Times Arts and Human Rights Radio show broadcast on Wednesday 27 May, 6-7pm (repeated Wednesday 3 June 2026, 6-7pm) and available as a podcast), features an interview with the award winning internationally recognised theatre practitioner, director, sociologist, and educator Frédérique Lecomte. Frédérique is the founder, CEO and artistic director of Théâtre et Réconciliation located in Brussels, Belgium. The company uses performances and workshops to support reconciliation, trauma recovery, and human rights work, using theatre to promote social engagement and to empower and transform individuals and communities. They have the aim of making theatre with everyone to save the world and create a shared humanity. Frédérique has developed her own theatrical method for over 40 years called Théâtre et Réconciliation, named after the theatre company she founded. Frédérique has worked extensively in Belgium and in conflict zones including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi
