As many of you who follow my site and ramblings are aware, I work in construction. Websites and the tech side of things have always been a bit of a struggle for me, but I perversely enjoy pushing myself and trying to figure things out.

Last week, I finally sort of got my head around SEO. I managed to get more than 10,000 mixes indexed by Google, along with a number of other achievements that I don't fully understand yet!

As a result, I've had to re-evaluate how I present mixes on the site. I've started adding SEO-friendly descriptions to new additions, replacing "&" with "and" where necessary, and changing the way I display dates.

I picked a few random mixes from the site and set to work on them using my newfound knowledge.

I'm not there yet and I'm still figuring it all out, but here's what took me the last 24 hours to achieve. Hopefully, it'll get faster as I continue to wrap my head around it!

So it might look like things have slowed down a bit over the last few weeks, but in reality there’s a ton going on behind the scenes that’s eating up my time.

I’ve been messing around with social media publishers and trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to create decent-looking reels for socials.

There have also been a lot of small but important backend updates to the site.

Nothing hugely noticeable from the outside, but lots of fixes and tweaks that improve the overall experience and stability.

I’ve also dived into the world of SEO, so you’ll start seeing more SEO-friendly text appearing on mix pages.

The Ben Klock collection is first, and once I figure out exactly what I’m doing I’ll roll it out across the site.

Apparently Google prefers:

* “at” instead of @

* “and” instead of &

* “21 January 2026” instead of “21.01.2026”

Which should make things easier for our American friends and their completely fu**ed system for writing dates :)

Big thank you to Rich_Reserve_69 on Reddit, who may have pointed me towards a fix for the search loading times.

Right now the search is pretty sluggish because it’s digging through 80,000 entries.

I’m currently updating the backend operating system so the plugin can run properly.

He also suggested adding Patreon milestones:

Something like:

* X subscribers = bookmarks/favorites

* X subscribers = playlists/listening queues

* X subscribers = personal listening history

* X subscribers = similar mix recommendations

The bookmark/save feature is probably the thing I get asked about most.

I’m also trying my hardest not to put ads on the site because:

1. They’re annoying

2. They ruin the look of the archive

But with rising costs and only 6 Patreon subscribers at the moment, I will eventually have to start introducing them.

Maybe ad-free browsing becomes a Patreon feature.

Who knows.

Anyway, suggestions and feedback are always welcome.
