I am an African. Africa is in me.
I am a Nigerian, what else could I be.
I am the hope of a determined continent
I am the promise of a brighter future imminent
The land of my ancestors
Provinces of our visionary progenitors
Consisting of different nation clans
Joined together by the Colonialist's plans
Through thick and thin we’ve come this far
Though tribes and tongues may differ,
Like the branches of a mighty tree
Our deep roots is what makes us free
Most populous black nation refuses to bow
To the negative notion of blackness being put on thou
With rhythm in our soul, pride and dignity always on our brow
Our cultures shining forth like the arch of a rainbow
Indeed, sometimes we do disagree with each other
When the ravening pudding of enmity is what is on offer
And there are times when the wrangling is but tragical
Hear this cry, my people; these dreadful incidents are inimical
But what can be done when the promises of our leaders are cynical
Then it is time for the youths to champion a peace that is radical
Encouraging love and harmony we must act especially fast
And take a moment to remember our heroes past
Great lofty heights we must henceforth attain
Where equity, justice and fair play must reign
Then and only then can we proclaim our eureka
As Nigeria, the land of opportunity, the golden jewel of Africa.
