Talking Pictures

Chris Palmer FRPS EFIAP DPAGB APAGB

Presented by the Dublin Camera Club on Tuesday 1st February 2022 @ 8pm

The title – Talking Pictures – alludes to the fact that Chris will certainly be talking about his pictures but in addition he likes to think that the images “talk” or communicate with the viewer.
Emphasising his own philosophy of getting an image right when it is shot, he discusses basic camera skills, camera craft and the way he photographs when on location. He will relate the actual taking experiences and will cover landscape, urban, monochrome and beach photography.

Chris gained an Associateship of the RPS with darkroom monochrome prints and a Fellowship with digital prints. He assesses on the RPS Visual Art (A & F) panel and provides advice at distinction advisory days.

He is a busy PAGB judge and a popular lecturer. He is also a member of the prestigious London Salon of Photography.

Join us for a fun-filled evening of photography with the award winning photographers Sharon and Robert Prenton-Jones.
Based in their studio in North Wales, they are well known for combining their studio work with the waterfalls, lakes castles, mountains and beaches which are a short drive from their home.
They are both multi-award winning photographers who have had their images exhibited all over the world.
Earlier this year Sharon was awarded one of the top distinctions in the world – the MFIAP.

On Tuesday 28th September Dublin Camera Club will host an online presentation from husband and wife team Sharon and Robert Prenton-Jones.

The event is open to guests as it is a FIAP Exhibition Center presentation.

Details are on the club website under "Guest Presenters" - with a fee of €5 for non members who wish to register.

Dublin Camera Club will be holding an exhibition of photographic panels, a series of images on a particular theme. The Exhibition will feature the winning panels from a club competition held earlier in the year and judged by the members.⁠

These winning images, 30 in all, will be presented as a video along with commentary by the individual photographers.⁠

1. INTRODUCTION TO CAMERAS AND EQUIPMENT
Wednesday September 22nd
An introduction to the different types of cameras, lenses and accessories, with an explanation of their uses and applications.

2. EXPOSURE PART 1
Wednesday September 29th
An explanation of the various exposure techniques which may be used in film and digital cameras; their uses and the effects obtainable.

3. COMPOSING THE PHOTOGRAPH
Wednesday October 6th
Arranging the elements of the picture to produce the most pleasing effect; what to avoid and some of the rules which may be used to improve your pictures.

4. ESSENTIAL IMAGE EDITING
Wednesday October 13th
Transferring your images from camera to computer and using simple image editors to enhance images for greatest effect.

5. MONOCHROME PHOTOGRAPHY
Wednesday October 20th
An introduction to monochrome photography with all its beautiful particularities and challenges.

6. PEOPLE PHOTOGRAPHY
Wednesday October 27th
Introduces techniques and approaches to taking individual portrait and group pictures (including street photography), and with an introduction to flash photography.

7. LANDSCAPE & TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY
Wednesday November 3rd
How to capture memorable images whilst exploring nature and on holiday, handling typical challenges which may arise.

8. EXPOSURE – PART 2
Wednesday November 10th
Revisiting the earlier concepts of exposure and dealing with some more advanced concepts with examples of practical situations.

Saturday November 13th: Closing date for receipt of submissions for Exhibition – midnight.

9. COURSE SUM-UP
Wednesday November 17th
A summing up of some of the main points raised during the course and advice on what to do next. We hope to showcase some of the students’ images in an exhibition at the end of the course. This will be the rolling banner on the club’s website home page. Selected images will be shown tonight.

Monday Workshop 13th September 2021

People photography (DCC members only)

Photographing people, whether family members, friends or others, young or old, everyone wants to know how to and to improve their ability. This Monday Workshop is aimed at DCC members at all levels who want some tips and suggestions on how to get better “People Shots”.

We will have three presenters, all DCC members; Gerry Andrews who has photographed people in Ireland and around the world using available light; Eamonn Lawless has a lot of experience using artificial added light and Ewa Poplawska whose speciality is photographing babies - particularly newborns.

This workshop is limited to Dublin Camera Club members only, the Zoom link will be sent to all on the day. No need to register, just show up on the night.

Dublin Camera Club fantastic Introduction to Photography Course commences in just under three weeks time. The online course presented over Zoom caters for all photography skill levels. Consider giving it as a gift to a family member of friend who is interested in photography or why not sign up yourself. The course will enhance your photography knowledge and skill level. It's that time of year to be thinking - what am I going to do during the long winter nights?

Well, how about a bit of self-indulgence? Treat yourself to this course and learn what all those buttons on your camera are for - and learn a new skill!

For example: Lesson #3 on Wednesday October 6th is about COMPOSING THE PHOTOGRAPH and here’s what we’ll teach you - Arranging the elements of the picture to produce the most pleasing effect; what to avoid and some of the rules which may be used to improve your pictures.

New and established members of Dublin Camera Club on a lovely summer evening outing to the Bull Island in Clontarf. Great fun, photos and banter had by the new members and the "older crew".
