Do you live in Dublin 8? Are you an artist or arts organisation or an individual interested in experiencing art in Dublin 8? Please join our campaign for an interdisciplinary Art Space for all.

We believe the government has a duty of care to deliver along with quality Homes for people, quality Art Spaces in the urban web of commercial development and there is an obligation to implement the monetary support to ensure longevity of these spaces.

We demand an end to geographical inequality and structural homelessness. We call for a viable cultural infrastructure for all people.

We believe artists are entrepreneurs who can organise, curate and manage designated Art Spaces.

We believe in co-creation and collaboration between artists across disciplines in the management of dedicated spaces.

We believe in access to art for all.

We believe all stakeholders have to embrace the communal benefits of providing the basic structures for a healthy society.

Please like this page, leave your impressions, suggestions and comments on the proposal for Arts Spaces in Dublin 8 here and we will keep you informed about our progress.

Outlandish Theatre Platform co-creates performance projects exploring the performativity of public and private spaces within the urban realm. The statement below is a sad example of how public space and the use of it can be violated by private companies. We do not agree and hope IPUT Real Estate Dublin and P & J Security will take appropriate action to stop policing public space.

I am a human.
I have lived in Dublin for over fifty years.
The canal is a public space.
I go to the canal daily to move, to dance.
IPUT is a developer, a contractor, developing private land on the canal into office buildings.
Wilton Park was given to Iput as part of the development project.
Wilton Park was a private park open to the public and is now managed by IPUT.
IPUT controlls the usage and look of Wilton Park.
IPUT built a large screen to present artworks to the passersby on the canal as their percent for art project.
IPUT also built a boardwalk, as part of their percent for art work on the canal.
The boardwalk is a viewpoint to the Wilton Park screen.
IPUT closed Wilton Park this summer for renovations.
Nobody accessed the park this summer.
IPUT subcontracts a security company, P & J Security, to keep their property safe.
I have been moving on the canal for the last fifty years.
I have observed the developments along the canal for the last fifty years.
On Wednesday the 2nd of August I moved and danced on the boardwalk.
I was interrupted by a security guard who asked me what I was doing.
I replied by saying I am moving and dancing on the canal.
The security guard didn't understand moving and dancing on the canal.
I explained moving and dancing is my way to be.
The security guard still didn't understand moving and dancing on the canal.
The security guard told me I could only be on the canal for one hour at a time.
I suggested phoning the Gardai to ask them to clarify my rights to move and dance on the canal.
The security guard quickly disappeared when mentioning the Gardai as protectors of public safety.
I felt unsafe on the canal for the first time in fifty years.

I would like to hold IPUT and P & J security accountable for how I was mistreated by one of their security people. The security company they employ and the training they give in relation to the protection of their private property, directly affects the public domain. The security guard's actions seem to hold distinct cultural values which lead to judgements towards people using the public domain.

I strongly advise IPUT to better inform and instruct its subcontractors to align with human rights to use public space freely.

Signed, a perturbed human
