Visual Artists Ireland

Visual Artists Ireland Visual Artists Ireland is the Representative body for professional visual artists in Ireland.

VAI is dedicated to ensuring that Ireland's visual artists, from across all cultural, social, economic and gender identity backgrounds, are equipped with, and can gain equitable access to, the resources, networks, and support they need to thrive. VAI research has identified: Isolation; a Need for Support; and a Need for Information as the three primary areas of concern for visual artists. Each of

these impact areas are directly referenced by a range of services which are clearly directed towards our vision statement “We dare to dream of a time when artists will live in a world of opportunities.” Through the delivery of Networking, Support, and Information services, we allow individual artists and artist groups to develop their careers, develop a capacity to take advantage of the opportunities, and to share knowledge. We do this through: Advocacy; Advice; Membership Services; Lifelong Learning; and Information Provision. Vision

Whispers of the Countryside | Paul Galligan at the Townhall Arts Centre Gallery
Exhibition continues until Friday, 10th July 2026.

A solo exhibition by Paul Galligan, designed by Mark St. John Ellis.

Paul’s work consists of large-scale charcoal and soft pastel drawings that focus on the local Irish rural landscape.

He approaches these subjects as individual presences, creating oversized images that generate an almost three-dimensional effect. The drawings are highly physical and expressive.

CHOKE : A meditation on grief and the alchemy of the abject.

This intimate, artist-initiated presentation of deeply personal new work coincides with Basel’s international art week, marking the culmination of a 3-month residency at Stiftung Bartels Fondation.

Choke dismantles the intellectual narratives we construct to distance ourselves from natural cycles, offering a poignant reminder that humans are animals, in all their frailty and beauty.

SONANCE | Siobhán McDonald at Taylor Galleries
The exhibition SONANCE brings together a series of abstract works on Japanese paper, canvas and wood through which the artist explores states of transition. The sources of the paintings include references to ancient geological maps, the edges of seascapes, exposing the layers of the Anthropocene and human displacement. An engagement with realms of deep time informs the imagery, transforming the invisible and the imagined into a resonant visual language.
