The Liberties Festival The Liberties Festival is one of Ireland’s oldest festivals.

Here is our Ramble route for tomorrow morning with 𝑬𝑫𝑾𝑰𝑵𝑨 𝑮𝑼𝑪𝑲𝑰𝑨𝑵 and the Stray Sod Céilí band.

Rambling, also referred to as Céilí-ing, Raking, and Bothántaíocht, is the rural tradition of house calling or visiting neighbours that was the custom for many generations in Ireland; sharing tea, chat, music, stories, songs, news, and playing cards.

Our merry band of strawboys will ramble to a selection of homes and gardens within the Liberties in their woven costumes, for music, dance, and mischief.

This is in association with Seán Corcoran Series and before our Bilberry Ball in the afternoon in Michael Mallin Park.

Our free traditional arts strand at the festival starts on Wednesday Tailors Hall with musicians Paddy Glackin Paddy Glackin and Peter Browne Peter Browne ‘in conversation’, exploring the life, work, and legacy of the iconic Breandán Breathnach (1912-1985); uilleann piper, collector, writer, publisher and Liberties native.

As former career-long presenters and producers at RTÉ, Paddy and Peter will also respond to a selection of clips of Breathnach at his most astute, insightful, and entertaining.

Aibítir (Organicus) & Sacred Threads

At the centre of our festival is a large-scale spatial programme unfolding over two consecutive evenings across different areas of St. Audoen's Church Visitor Centre

Each evening begins at 6:30pm with the performance of a newly commissioned 3 hour composition by New York–based composer Steve Long Steve Long written specifically for the Festival and performed by organist Olesia Borsuk Exploring the interaction of sound, language, and space, the work functions as a continuous sonic environment gradually unfolding throughout the architecture of the church.

At 7pm, audiences move into the graveyard for Sacred Threads, a spatial meditation based on sacred vocal traditions from Ireland and Ukraine. Performed by Olesya Zdorovetska (voice, narration), Vsevolod Sadovyj voice, winds, percussion), and Nick Roth (flutes, saxophones, percussion), the work brings together sacred chants preserved in medieval and baroque manuscripts from both cultures, creating a musical space shaped by memory, faith, and historical survival.

Through repetition and the interaction of distinct sonic, the project gradually alters the perception of time, offering a meditative withdrawal from the rhythms of the surrounding city while deepening engagement with the architecture and historical memory of one of Dublin’s oldest active parishes
