Such words of wisdom…
Uncovering the living grave
Addiction doesn't start in the bottle, the pill, the needle, or the behavior.
It starts in the unconscious - the parts of you that learned to numb before you even learned to speak.
The ego tries to manage it.
It says, "I've got this. I can control it."
But the ego is like a guard dog trying to run a whole farm - loud, loyal, and completely overwhelmed.
Recovery begins when the ego finally steps aside long enough for you to hear what's underneath.
The personal unconscious holds the memories you didn't choose but still carry.
The wounds you didn't cause but still bleed trom.
The fears you didn't ask for but still answer To.
And deeper still is the collective unconscious.
The shared human truth that suffering is universal, and healing is possible because others have walked this road and survived it.
Once we recognize that, we stop saying,
"Why am I like this?" and start saying,
"I'm not the only one who's ever felt this way
- and people like me get better."
That is recovery.
Not perfection.
Not punishment.
Not shame.
It isn't about letting your deeper self speak louder than your ego's fear -
it's about having the courage to climb down into the holes you never imagined you could dig with your own hands, and finally look at what's been living at the bottom .
If you still have the desire, you haven't dug deep enough.
I'd loan you my shovel, but I'm still digging too.
I don't have the desire to use anymore - but I don't want it either.
Have the best week of your life.
I love you all.
