Drogheda Trad Weekend This is achieved through sessions in cafes, restaurants, public venues, heritage locations and through master classes and schools programmes.

Drogheda Traditional Music Weekend now in its 21st year, brings some of the most accomplished traditional musicians, singers and dancers throughout Ireland and overseas to Drogheda on the last weekend of November with the generous support of the Arts Council and Louth County Council. There is a special emphasis on having sessions accessible to family audiences in various venues and a focus on tra

ditional singing due to the strong tradition locally. We also encourage musicians to stay in the town for the entire weekend to engage with local musicians and encourage impromptu sessions. The festival for over 10 years has hosted an extensive outreach element in local schools. This has proved incredibly successful with over 200 students experiencing concerts and residencies by some of Ireland top musicians. The festival has been generously sponsored by the Arts Council Festivals Scheme and Create Louth. Also supported by The D Hotel, Phelan and Branigan Solicitors and Cisco Engineering. Sunday afternoon of the festival will see a Sets Céilí take place at a local venue, this year being McHughs on the Cord Road and featuring SLIABH AUGHTY. a prominent trio in traditional Irish music, known for their high-energy performances of East Clare/East Galway music, featuring members Charlie Harris (accordion), Mark Donnellan (fiddle), and Jim Corry (piano).They are all long-time members of the Tulla Céilí Band and are renowned for their music at set dancing céilís and festivals, bringing lively and infectious rhythms to audiences.

Finishing off the 2025 Drogheda Traditional Music & Singing Weekend an AFTERNOON SINGING SESSION with special guests Bláithín Mhic Cana takes place at Droichead Arts Centre at 3pm.

Bláithín Mhic Cana is a celebrated Sean Nós singer and teacher from Slieve Gullion, County Armagh. She specialises in the Oriel singing tradition, carrying forward the rich repertoire documented by singers and researchers such as Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin. A multi-award winner at Oireachtas na Samhna, Bláithín has performed at major festivals including The Frank Harte Singing Festival, Féile na Tána and Electric Picnic. She is a founding member of Tempest, whose debut album was released earlier this year, and in 2024 she was honoured with the Gradam Cois Life award.

The annual Drogheda Trad Weekend concert in honour of Caitlin Bean ui Cairbre who was instrumental in promoting the traditional music culture in Drogheda is always a highlight in a weekend of great music and song.

This year's concert takes place at 8pm Saturday 22rd November at Droichead Arts Centre and features husband and wife folk duo Zoë Conway and John Mc Intyre who bring exciting blend of eclectic fiddle and guitar music, to the stage sympathetic arrangements of traditional Irish music, compositions and songs, old and new.

As well as Zoe and John, singer and flute player Desi Wilkinson will perform. Originally from Belfast, Desi was a long-term resident of Drogheda before living in far-flung places such as Brittany, Limerick and Newcastle.

Unfortunately this event is SOLD OUT, but welcome Zoe, John and Desi.

Once again the weekend will encompass events throughout Drogheda featuring some of Ireland’s most esteemed traditional singers and musicians as well as a collection of our best local talent as the town comes alive with music with singing concerts, talks, pub sessions, and a traditional sets céilí.
