Hello, beloved members of the Harry Potter Society.
Another year has come and gone. We hoped you all enjoyed yourselves and had a fantastic time. Unfortunately, the status of our society is uncertain at the moment, as we do not have an upcoming committee for next year. Hopefully by September we will know for sure and hopefully we will have new volunteers ready to step up, but the future is, as it is in many cases in our lives, uncertain.
If this is to be our final hurrah, I just wanted to express my deepest gratitude to our of all of our committee members, society members, supporters, families and friends that had patiently stayed with us on this long journey. Especially we would like to thank the Society Executive for their enduring support and to our charity partners, TENI (Transgender Equality Network in Ireland), who have been the best charity partners anyone could ask for. If you wish to contribute to such a good cause, please look up their website and donate what you can!
To keep this society functioning has been a labour of pain, humour, sacrifice and love- it has been one hell of a journey. What kept our spark ignited was the knowledge that we were providing a service to you all. We have kept a loving, respectful and inclusive environment, welcomes and encourages everyone, regardless of their race, gender or sexual orientation, to make new friends, express their passion for Harry Potter, to be their own authentic self, and most importantly, have a tremendous amount of fun. That was what kept this committee going this year, the knowledge that we were providing you with something that made you laugh and enjoy yourselves in these difficult times, a safe place where you can meet like-minded people, films for you to enjoy and to keep the work of those who had passed (from Alan Rickman to Robbie Coltraine to Helen McCroy to Michael Gambon) alive.
Thank you for being on this journey with us, it has been our honour. Have a great summer, you all earned it.
From David, Anna, Camilla, Liam, and Afton
