We've been too upset/in deep denial about plugd and Gulpd Cafe closing to be able to string a few words together about it. Even now it's still difficult, but we felt it couldn't go unsaid how very grateful we are and how sad we are to see them go (for now!).
Over the 18 months we ran Quarter, they were immensely supportive: hosting events in both spaces, feeding all of our visiting artists; making sure our posters were in prime locations; and giving us so much financial and emotional support (Jimmy once treated us to some homemade ice cream during a stressful meeting). Of all the things we've asked of them, and there has been a lot, I don't think we have ever been told no, not even once. Since we've grown up into Quarter Block Party all of that encouragement and pure soundness has continued, we were even welcome to camp out in Plugd for a few weeks and run our box office from there.
There's a very real pang of grief walking past those closed doors now, it does feel like Cork's creative community has lost its home. The fact that a small cafe could cement itself as one of the best venues in the city to discover and celebrate great music and art is really saying something. We look forward to whatever you do next and wish you so much good luck. Thanks Jimmy, Albert, and all the amazing staff ###x
