Our last film of the season is the satirical thriller directed by acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. It follows an auto mechanic named Vahid who, after a minor car accident, kidnaps a man he believes was his prison torturer.

It won the Palme d'Or at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and is noted for its "mordant gallows humour" and exploration of revenge and moral ambiguity.

We show it on Thu 16 April at 7:30pm. Come early for a glass of wine to celebrate the season.

Award-winning filmmaker Jafar Panahi sat down with Jon Stewart of the US talk programme, The Daily Show. He discusses his latest film, IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT, which we show on Thu 16 April. They talk about suffering a 20-year ban from filmmaking under the Iranian regime, the difference between a socially engaged filmmaker and one who caters to audiences, displaying the difference between humanity and authoritarianism through characters' doubt, and why, despite censorship and mass killings, he continues to return to Iran.

SOULEYMANE’S STORY [France], Thu 26 March, 7:30pm - 100% Rotten Tomatoes.
Souleymane is an asylum seeker from Guinea living in Paris, forced to join the daily rush for a bed in a homeless shelter. Unable to work legally, he ‘rents’ someone else’s work profile on a food delivery app. Anchored by an extraordinary performance from Abou Sangaré, Souleymane’s Story is a raw, compassionate and quietly devastating story about one man forced to live precariously on the fringes of society. https://mailchi.mp/903b1ee61709/httpscorkcineclubcom-18245220
