This eight-week course invites artists, writers, and makers to explore publishing as a creative practice — not only as the production of a book, but as a way of sharing ideas, stories, and experiences with the world.

Participants will engage with both the traditions and the contemporary experiments of independent publishing, from zines and artist books to digital platforms, public interventions, and collaborative editions.

Through a combination of discussion, hands-on workshops, and guided project development, the course will open up publishing as a form of expression.

What You’ll Explore:
Histories and Cultures of Independent Publishing
Discover how small presses, DIY collectives, and artist-run initiatives have shaped cultural life in Ireland and beyond — challenging mainstream narratives and creating new spaces for voices and ideas.

Experiment with hands-on techniques in zine-making, book design, and layout, while also exploring cross-disciplinary publishing forms. Learn how to create a plan to unite audiences with your publication or project through launch events, marketing and more.

Each participant will design and produce their own small publication, whether a zine, booklet, fold-out map, online edition, or hybrid format — an expression of their creative voice and publishing vision.

Yesterday Bloomers participated in the Strike at 6pm on Culture Night.

NCFA Statement for Culture Night - Strike at Six
The Arts in Ireland generate over €1.5 billion for the economy every year. We see the impact and profits of our excellence in film, literature, music, visual art, architecture, dance, and theatre echoed across the biggest stages in the world - celebrated, in turn, by the most recognised and prestigious awards. This quality does not grow in a vacuum. There is a critical need to invest in and support the entire creative ecosystem, if we are to continue to enjoy the direct and indirect
benefits of our international reputation.
As the cost of living and housing crises rapidly reshape the ecosystem, many artists are being forced to choose between their work, and the ability to afford rent and food. Recent statistics show that 53% of artists in Ireland - regardless of art form - live in enforced deprivation, compared to 17% of the general population.
We are asking the Government to commit 0.1% of its total budget in 2026 to the Arts, bringing Ireland closer to the European average. We also call on the Government to retain, extend, and expand the Basic Income for the Arts scheme, and to roll it out on a statutory basis to accommodate at least 8,000 artists. We call for equitable access to the scheme for those receiving state support such as Disability Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, and pensions.
The continuation of the scheme has significant and widespread support, with 97% of the population - including the general public - in favour of its retention.
We all rely on the sustenance that only Art can provide in moments of crisis or celebration - be it private grief, community celebration, or the daily substance of our imaginative lives. Without urgent intervention and direct financial investment by the government, we will witness our cultural fabric diminish and disintegrate.
We are proud of our small nation’s cultural reputation. This budget can go down in history as one that meaningfully outlines and safeguards a roadmap for the Irish arts sector for the next decade and beyond.
Value Culture. Value Artists.

Lovely visit to for Distro by !

It was great to get the cogs turning and enjoy many conversations that were grounded in themes central to our research, spontaneous or inspired by the town.

Listening to speak about her work in this context was wonderful, along side and their father. Our chats were imbued with new ideas surrounding belonging and home throughout.

Thanks to all involved for welcoming us! 🤝✨

Tune into éist today, Friday 15th August from 1pm - 2pm for Bloomers radio.

Bloomers sat down to chat with Seán Óg Ó Murchú and St Diabhal about Dlúthpháirtíocht.

Dlúthpháirtíocht, translated as 'solidarity' as Gaeilge, is a nonprofit, multidisciplinary art collective, primarily consisting of Irish and Palestinian artists. Beginning as a poem, the project grew into an online publication, and then an exhibition in London. The exhibition is now touring Ireland and is currently on in the Laneway Gallery, Shandon Street, Cork until the 17th August.

The exhibition aims to highlight the historical links between Ireland & Palestine as well as exhibiting contemporary responses to what is unfolding in the occupied territories.

Dlúthpháirtíocht is a form of direct action. It is a way that you can interact, learn, and contribute financially to the project, with all profits being donated to Dignity for Palestinians, a charity run by UNRWA doctor Musallam Abukhalil, on the ground in central Gaza.

W/W: A PERFORMANCE BY SARAH LONG

Join us at this year! Artist will be performing live an excerpt from the acclaimed W/w - which we have just sent to re-print after it sold out earlier this year. So excited to be part of the incredible festival and to bring Sarah’s work to new audiences.

W/w is a work of autofiction by Cork-based artist and writer, Sarah Long. Sarah’s work focuses on suppressed female archetypes, the politics of representation, nationhood, and myth through the lens of feminism and she creates autofiction that she translates across painting, sound, moving image,
performance and publication.

The W/w performance is a poignant and provocative exploration of these issues, brought to life by Sarah herself, combining elements of performance art and literary exploration.

Duration: 30 minutes followed by a Q&A

Thank you to all who attended the launch event for Bless the Corners of This House at yesterday and to the contributors who read their beautiful pieces to the crowd.

Throughout the process of bringing this book together, we regularly spoke about the common theme of safety or lack thereof underpinning works about home, belonging and the housing crisis. It is not always easy to find this sense of safety or sometimes it comes in unexpected forms.

Through storytelling and creating spaces where we can connect to each other - we can gleam a sense of safety and create a feeling of home, or in the words of Lily O’Shea and Ali O’Shea, become fires for one another.

What an honour to bring these stories and works together. We are so proud of Bless the Corners of This House and all involved in its creation đź’›

Bless the Corners of this House is available for sale from the link in bio.

There is a limited edition zine inspired by the incredible created by designed by Bloomers Co-Director and Curator included in Bless the Corners of this House. Follow Redbarn Residency to learn more about this wonderful project.
