On a usual night, lots of energy, warm ups, read throughs, improv and future production ideas discussed Rebel City Drama Club is an independent theatre group based in Cork City. Our major objective is to remove access barriers to theatre and make it accessible for everyone. We consider ourselves amateur, but amateur for us simply means non- profit, with no compromise on the quality. We organize for
tnightly theatre meetups in the city centre (Haven Café) which are open to people of all expertise levels. We have staged performances in Cork City from 2018 onwards, across venues such as Firkin Crane, An Spailpin Fanach and over YouTube during the Level 5 lockdown in Ireland. There are several playwrights, actors and non-acting support within the group, across different experience levels. In terms of expertise, age profiles, ethnicities, etc., we are really a ‘rainbow’ group. At the same time, we are ‘Pure Cork’ - all members involved in productions are residents in Cork, with many of the members born and brought up in the Rebel County. We endeavour to remain an accessible and open group, while we continue to put on productions, with quality getting progressively better every time. The main aim is to improve and learn, while having fun and entertaining the people of Cork and beyond.
