Baltimore Wooden Boat Festival Baltimore Wooden Boat Festival Baltimore Wooden Boat Festival - a celebration of the traditional timber sailing boats of Ireland.

The Festival runs pn the last weekend in May each year. We invite sailors and boat-lovers from near and far to join us in Baltimore in May for a weekend of sailing, talking, learning and partying in true West Cork style! Run in conjunction with Baltimore Seafood Weekend, on shore there will be the best of food and drink in the restaurants and bars. In the food tents lining the pier, West Cork's finest fish smokers, cheese makers and organic gardeners will ply their exotic, world famous wares.

Atlantic Challenge Ireland has claimed the overall title at the 18th Atlantic Challenge International Contest of Seamanship.

Closing in...!

We have sailed over 3600 miles since we left Florida on the 5th July, and we are now gradually approaching the UK and Ireland!

I previously mentioned Falmouth as our destination, but we are thinking of stopping in Ireland along the way - for some Fastnet history in Baltimore and a closer look at the famous rock itself.

After a few days in Ireland we will likely be sailing into Falmouth mid- to late- next week. I'm very grateful to hear that some people want to come out to meet us on the water and in Falmouth itself - I'll share more information about how that might be possible when I have a more definite ETA . Thanks!

A final farewell to one of the last great traditional Heir Island lobster boatmen.
On his final journey to Lisheen Church, Sean Harte made one last stop at Cunnamore Pier, to look out towards Heir Island, where his beloved wife Rose, close family, fellow Heir Islanders, friends, and generations of boatmen gathered to pay their respects.
Watching over this poignant farewell was Hanorah S463, built on Heir Island by Richard Pyburn in 1892–93 for Sean's grandfather, Con Harte. Passed down to Con's son Dan, Hanorah was where Sean and his brother Neilie first learned their trade as young boys.
It was a fitting tribute to a man whose life was deeply intertwined with the sea, the traditions of Heir Island, and the proud maritime heritage passed down through generations.
May Sean Harte rest in eternal peace. Fair winds and following seas. 24th July 2026.

Well done to our Baltimore RNLI crew who won the around the Fastnet race, from Cork Harbour around the Fastnet and back to Cork Harbour, as part of the Beaufort Cup.
