Founded in 1938 by composer, conductor and musicologist Professor Aloys Fleischmann, Cork Orchestral Society has long established itself as a reputable organisation dedicated to the provision of high-quality classical music events in Cork City.

Gerard McChrystal and Ties Mellema, two of Europe’s finest saxophonists, chart the journey of NASA’s Voyager probes through the cosmos in an exhilarating and transcendental merging of live electronics and raw acoustic power. The boundary-pushing programme features a new commission by acclaimed Irish composer Ian Wilson, generously supported by the Vaughan Williams Foundation, alongside works by Lera Auerbach, Peter O’Doherty and Ties Mellema.

Under the direction of Tom Doyle, the Fleischmann Choir and guest soloists Emma Nash, Gemma Ní Bhriain, Ross Scanlon and Brendan Collins present Mozart’s Missa solemnis in C minor (KV 139), written for the consecration of a new orphanage church, and Schubert’s rousing Magnificat in C major (D 486).

Directed by Henning Kraggerud, the Irish Chamber Orchestra and guest leader Joel Bardolet step into an all-Mozart programme featuring the composer’s fifth Violin Concerto (nicknamed “Turkish”), the intimate Violin Sonata in E minor (KV 304), and elegantly sophisticated Symphony No. 29 in A major (KV 201/186a).

Twin guitarists Peter and Zoltan Katona join forces to present a concert of virtuosic Spanish music centred around Granada’s Alhambra Palace. Built in the Middle Ages following the Arab conquest of Spain, the Palace, adorned with impressive mosaics and sun-drenched gardens, inspired many generations of composers, including Isaac Albéniz, Enrique Granados and Manuel de Falla.

Cork Orchestral Society was saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Máirín Quill earlier this week. A steadfast and loyal supporter of the arts, Máirín served as the Society's President for many years, leading the organisation with grace, generosity and inspirational vision.

We extend our condolences to the Quill family, and all those who knew Máirín.

🎶 Two great choral concerts on the horizon!

The CSM Symphony Orchestra and Fleischmann Choir perform next Sunday, 7 December, in the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, Dennehy's Cross; and Madrigal '75 present their ever-popular Christmas concert series on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 December at MTU Cork School of Music.
