Céilí by the Lee Irish dancing lessons Wednesdays @ 19:30 in Crane Lane, Cork. Beginners welcome, no partner required!

It's hard to be all things to all people, but at Céilí by the Lee we try our best! Whether you want to learn to dance, to get fit, to experience traditional Irish culture, or just to have the craic and meet new people - we have you covered. We run regular Thursday lessons where you can come along and try your hand (foot?) at Irish dancing. Under our MC's gentle tutelage you'll be dancing reels and

jigs in no time. Every céilí starts with the basics, before moving onto more complex dances, so there's something to keep everyone entertained. Neither experience nor aptitude is required, our MC is renowned for turning two left feet into a matching pair! If you'd like to organise an event on a particular date, contact us to see if we can accommodate you!

That was absolutely magnificent, both this evening, and all throughout the last decade. Thank you all for coming, for dancing, and for creating a fantastic atmosphere. It is such a tremendous privilege and pleasure for me to able to spend time each week meeting new people, and roaring at them!

On the 3rd July 2014, we had the first Céilí by the Lee, in the Porterhouse, which no longer exists in that form. Incredibly next week we will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary!

There's been a lot of changes in the intervening decade - not least in the realm of phone cameras - but also some constants - like my 5 jokes. It's been a tremendous privilege to meet people from all over the world, and to spend a few hours shouting at them each week.

Before Céilí by the Lee, the only time I'd be found on a dance floor would be if I got lost en route to the jacks, but now it's the central pillar of my social life. Doing the classes has introduced me to people from all over the world, made me many friends, and led to other wonderful things, like Salsa by the Lee.

I'm hugely grateful to everyone who has made it possible for me to spend time doing something so enjoyable. There are far too many to thank, but my undying thanks to everyone at Crane Lane, Cork, which has been the home of Céilí by the Lee for most of its life.

Thank you all for coming and dancing and laughing and creating a fantastic atmosphere every week! See you on the dance floor!
