Brian Leach’s () soundscape provides the ambient atmosphere for A Crack in the Mountain, now showing . The piece plays with our notions of time, perception, and light. Time is slowed, we are challenged to perceive the world on a geological scale, and to view the light of day from within the darkness of Plato’s cave which is the inspiration for the exhibition.

Don’t miss it. We are open at the top of Shandon Street in Cork City Tuesday 11-4, Saturday 11-6 and Thursday, Friday 11-4.

Brian Leach is a composer and musician based in Ireland. He brings together new technology and old traditions to create immersive music which transports the audience, using custom electronics and
acoustic instruments such as hammered dulcimer and uilleann pipes.

Tom Doig’s () Allegory of the Cave, now showing , is an evolving sculptural projection assemblage that utilises a variety of found and restored analogue projectors to create a sculptural montage of illuminated elements.

Borrowing its title from Plato’s allegory in The Republic, the work draws on the projection of shadows onto a cave wall as a metaphor for the relationship between perception and reality. Using paper fragments extracted from encyclopaedic and educational imagery, the
work engages with shared visual systems that shape how we explain, categorise, and understand the universe.

In a flickering and ever-changing world of ceramic, plaster, paper and paint, we find a humming and animate landscape where houses sprout roots and birds rise from below.

The film is haunted with an agitated grief, a sort of horror that appears in the desperate search for something to cling to. Feronia Wennborg’s soundscape permeates the world with sounds of scratching, squelching and spectral eeriness.

Etaoin Melville’s () new film and installation Stranger Whisperer is currently showing at the Laneway Gallery as part of A Crack in the Mountain.

Etaoin is a visual artist born in Cork who works across film, animation, drypoint printmaking, sculpture and painting.

Stranger Whisperer is a work that explores the physical memory of the body. Created during an artist residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland, it investigates the contrast between the tension held within and the expansiveness of the natural environment.

Don’t miss the amazing New Lens exhibition put together by which is on in the Laneway Gallery, a hidden gem in Shandon, until 18th July.

We are open 4 days a week, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 11-4 and Saturday 11-6

16 artists have re-imagined Harry Clarke’s Geneva Window which was commissioned 100 years ago by the Irish Government but never made it to Geneva because the finished piece fell foul of censorship laws.
