Artist Chelsea Canavan ran a series of workshops with communities around Tramore Valley Park to design a flag that represented the park as home for a diverse set of inhabitants. Over the course of three months more than one hundred flag designs were completed. At the end of August, the top ten flags as voted by visitors to the library were displayed in the Atrium of Cork City Council Civic Offices and members of the public were again invited to vote on their favourite design.
The winning flag was designed by 6th Class pupils from Gaelscoil na Dúglaise, Faolán Ó hArrachtáin, John Ó Murchú, Harry de Búrca, Alan Ó HIcí, Fionn Tornóir and Garvan Gillard and this flag was officially hoisted by The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Kieran McCarthy on October 20th.
6th Class teacher Maria Nic Cárthaigh and the creative coordinator for the Gaelscoil, Siobhán Uí Ghóilin also attended the event along with Marilyn Lennon from the KinShip art project.
We are very proud to have this flag flying in Tramore Valley Park!
