Newtowncashel Drama Group Newtowncashel Drama Group is based in Co Longford and is now in its 36th year of production. From then until 1946 two or three plays were performed each year.

Newtowncashel Drama Group based in Co Longford is now in its 36th year of production. The present group has been in existence since 1984 and carries on a long tradition of Amateur drama in Newtowncashel. Since the Tom Ashe Hall was built in 1918, plays concerts and dances were a regular event. In 1924 a group of young men and women came together and formed the Cashel Dramatic Society. During the 1

950’s Drama in Cashel began to travel. This was no small endeavour considering that at that time there where very few motor cars. From the 1950’s through to the 60’s the group performed a play every winter and sometimes even a small one act play at Christmas. Newtowncashel Drama Group has inherited a remarkable legacy and hopes to continue long into the future. The strength of talent in our group is backed by each member’s dedication and hard work. Our fans contribute in such a huge way buying tickets and filling the hall. Without all these great people we would not be in a position to carry on year in year out and we thank them all for their continued support.

Momentum has been building in the halls of Ballymahon Vocational School these past few weeks as two local drama groups of high renown Ballinalee Players and Newtowncashel Drama Group take to the boards with their productions of John B. Keanes SIVE.

Adding spice to this years production has been the showdown between Staff and Students as Ms. Tully of our English Department and Senan of 2nd year both take to the stage for the pride and glory of the parish.
