More than 120 kgs of apples collected during our 2 hour appletree care sessions with volunteers eagerly cutting back broken or over-burdened branches. Learning about pruning and thinning overly busy trees.

The apples will be saved for our forthcoming River Field day on Sunday 27th September when we will gather to press apples with a little help of people. We will have arts and crafts with Lynn Kirkham The GreenMantle, Lucy Moore and , a children pop up café courtesy of Print Van Go and a chidren's treasure hunt and much else.

While this is not the ideal time for pruning, it did start raining today so the trees will appreciate this! 😊 🌧🌦🌂⛈️ pruning is necessary work especially as some trees are getting damaged because of too much fruit. The pruning will benefit the trees next year... in the meantime, the apples can be saved and brought back for pressing. If you are passing and you see ripe fruit, do pick them and share with us what you are doing with it? juicing, drying, baking? 😋😋😋

As part of National Heritage Week, we are hosting a morning of appletree care in collaboration with Suircan Environmental to maintain and care for the many appletrees along the River Suir in Clonmel: picking the fruit that is ready, pruning the branches that are too heavy, clearing the weeds around the trees, staking any tree that might be wobbly, there are all kind of jobs that need doing and plenty of chat in between!

Dress appropriately for the day: wear a hat, bring gloves and sunscreen: we look forward to seeing you! Meet at the Greenane Greenway convent bridge entrance (across from Presentation secondary school where you can also park)
