Hacklers Theatre Company Cavan based Theatre Group that likes to challenge the audience, Aristophones, Beckett, Mamet, Banville, Mike Leigh, Dermot Healy and more.

Director Damien O'Brien. Dermot Healy lived in Cavan in the 1970's and early 1980's, It was there he founded the Hacklers with Ray O'Connor and made history by winning the All Ireland Drama Festival with their first production of Samuel Beckett's 'Waiting For Godot". ger on the winning production of " Waiting for Godot". Returning home from London in 1991, he took up the role of director . Plays include 'Endgame' and 'Happy Days' by Samuel Beckett both touring to the International Beckett Festival in Enniskillen 2012 and 2014. David Mamets "Oleanna" 2013 performed in the Druid Theatre Galway. 'Abigail's Party' by Mike Leigh Cavan 2015 and "What the People Saw" adapted from page to stage from the book by Mick O'Farrell by the Hacklers for Cavan County Councils 1916-2016 programme of events. The Hacklers have gained a reputation for performing plays that challenge actor and audience by playwrights that are rarely seen outside of City Theatres. Current production 'On Broken Wings' by Dermot Healy touring in September, Cavan and Leitrim.

From 7-10 November 2024 a Weekend of Commemorative Events will take place to recall the story of Eoghan Rua Ó Néill.

Eoghan Rua Ó Néill (c.1580–1649), the famous Irish military leader, was the nephew of Hugh Ó Néill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone. Eoghan Rua left Ireland in 1605 to pursue a military career on the Continent.
When news of the 1641 rising reached the Continent, Eoghan made preparations to return home and fight, landing at Doe Castle in Donegal in July 1642, and remaining in Ireland until his death in Cavan in 1649.

This programme of events will focus on different elements of Eoghan Rua Ó Néill’s story. With events including drama, music and history, you are invited to come and find out more about this iconic man.

From 7-10 November 2024, a Weekend of Commemorative Events will take place to recall the story of Eoghan Rua Ó Néill.

Eoghan Rua Ó Néill (c.1580–1649), the famous Irish military leader, was the nephew of Hugh Ó Néill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone. Eoghan Rua left Ireland in 1605 to pursue a military career on the Continent.
When news of the 1641 rising reached the Continent, Eoghan made preparations to return home and fight, landing at Doe Castle in Donegal in July 1642, and remaining in Ireland until his death in Cavan in 1649.
This programme of events will focus on different elements of Eoghan Rua Ó Néill’s story. With events including drama, music and history, you are invited to come and find out more about this iconic man. Events will take place 7-10 November 2024 throughout a range of venues in Co. Cavan.

The Hacklers are performing 0wen Roe “Outsider “ written and directed by Damien OBrien. Cast includes Michael Olwill , Jonathan Binchy
, Marie White and John Meehan. Poetry by Mark Lawlor and music Ellen O‘Brien as part of this wonderful festival to celebrate the 375th birthday of Owen Roe .
