Gabriel’s Oboe was written by contemporary Italian composer Ennio Morricone for the 1986 film, the Misson. It is considered to be one of the most memorable oboe melodies ever written. We were delighted to welcome Pádraig McCaul to our summer concert to perform this piece on the soprano saxophone. We hope you will enjoy this captivating performance.

Today we are delighted to present ‘Skriski, skriski, Lietuvėlėn’ from the legendary 1974 musical 'Devynbėdžiai' (The Village of Nine Sorrows). The song is performed by Carra Singers’ Musical Director Aušra Kvietkutė and accompanied by Ludmila Burcovschi.

In the original stage production, this moving melody is performed by a character named Skalnas, a talented woodcarver and wandering craftsman who travels from village to village. Though he brings beauty to others through his art, he is far away from everyone he loves, enduring a life of hardships and isolation. As he looks up at the sky, Skalnas spots a migrating white stork, a deeply symbolic bird of home
and family in Lithuanian culture, flying back across the Nemunas River. He begs the bird to act as his messenger, asking it to carry a note of love and reassurance back home to his mother. We hope you will enjoy this very special performance.

This song was composed by Giedrius Kuprevičius with lyrics by Kazys Saja.

Silver Rain was composed by B.E. Boykin, based on words by Langston Hughes, a poet of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s. It is lyrically rich and full of imagery of nature. We are grateful to Victoria Burcovschi for playing the beautiful violin solo on this piece. Carra Singers are directed by Aušra Kvietkutė and accompanied by Ludmila Burcovschi.

We are delighted to present today a song in the Lithuanian language, 'Lek gervelė'—or 'Fly, Little Crane'. This sweeping choral arrangement of the Lithuanian folk song is by contemporary composer Gediminas Kalinas and draws on the crane as a sacred metaphor for human life. It is performed by Carra Singers and Lakštingėla Lithuanian folk ensemble, and features Pádraig McCaul on saxophone and Ludmila Burcovschi on piano. The musical director is Aušra Kvietkutė. Thanks to Carra Singers for taking on the challenge to sing in the Lithuanian language and to Pádraig for capturing the Lithuanian feeling of the music so beautifully.

We enjoyed such an enriching night of music in Christ Church, Castlebar last night. Many thanks to all who came and supported us so warmly, we raised €1,347 for Mayo Pink Ribbon 🎀 and are overwhelmed by your generosity. Our thanks to our wonderful accompanist Ludmila Burcovschi and to all our guests. We were delighted to welcome the Westport Singers with Joseph and James Garvey, Pádraig McCaul and Lakštingėla Lithuanian Folk Ensemble. Our thanks to violinist Victoria Burcovschi, flautist Tomoe Chiba and drummers Ella and Lukasz Szczerbak for adding so much to our performance.

Our gratitude to our MC for the evening Clodagh Geraghty, the Pink Ribbon ladies who collected donations and Rev. Suzanne Cousins and the community of Christ Church for their welcome.

We extend a massive thank you, ačiū labai and míle buíochas to our Musical Director Ausra Kvietkute who has worked tirelessly all year to prepare us for the concert and devoted countless hours behind the scenes to organising and making sure everything ran smoothly. Thank you for your kindness, patience and belief! Your solo song was a highlight of the night, earning a standing ovation.

We don’t often get a chance to perform in January so we were very pleased to have the chance to sing at the recent Sustainability Mindset event in ATU Mayo. We hope you will enjoy a few clips from the day.
