Monthly matchbox project. Another "in memoriam" piece. On this peninsula, a first land-stop for Atlantic gales, I am fortunate that trees have survived in the garden. Trees = birds = casualties of flying into windows. I think this was a young thrush.

Monthly matchbox project. Magpies make their presence loudly known in the garden with their machine-gun call, or when they're squabbling over sticks with the hooded crows that nest in the willow tree. Occasionally, I'll find one of their strikingly beautiful feathers in the grass.

Monthly matchbox project. The garden is abundantly populated with snails; empty shells are everywhere. It seemed fitting to create a mini memorial to the many who have passed through.

Finishing the last few decorations for the tree made for me by my son Adam as an early Christmas present. If you can see the influence of certain designers in my work, you are right. Clare Youngs, Jane Ormes and Gillian Martin are contemporary designers I much admire. Then of course there are Helen Borten, Celestino Piatti, Hans Unger, Alvin Lustig, and Roy Kuhlman, graphic designers of the mid-century modern era.

While having a clear out, I found these 35 offcuts of card, 5x15cm... just begging to be used in some way. Every morning I drew on one and didn't look at them again until they were all done. I found it interesting how they evolved in that time, and how much I enjoyed this, given that I don't see myself as someone who draws. (Some practice with drawing hands and feet wouldn't come amiss!!!) In the last photo are my favourites.

I'd been making these tree decorations for myself when a first year graphic design student came for a work experience placement. So we made up a company/ brand, for which she designed a logo and a product tag. Her take-away from the project? " I hadn't realised how much went into it." I think she did really well ...

. An arty person I've known for a long time is . We once shared a kiln. Life took me in another direction and Viv continued to build her skills and creativity. Those blue pieces she made especially for my doll's house... the other image is amazing glaze on a large, one-off piece. She's on FB at Viv Payne Ceramics.

Of course, Noah's Ark follows on seamlessly from Harlequin (see previous posts)... once again, I was full of excitement and ideas, but got only so far with it. Feeling more than a bit discouraged by that point. I wonder if there is a cemetery somewhere in the ether, where ideas go when they die.
