The Workhouse Theatre Project - Carrickmacross

The Workhouse Theatre Project - Carrickmacross The Workhouse Theatre Project is an exciting new community venture with the primary aim of financing and building a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose theatre

An Introduction

The Workhouse Theatre Project is an exciting new community venture with the primary aim of financing and building a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose theatre in the town of Carrickmacross. South Monaghan has long been a hot bed for talented original musicians, comedians, playwrights, actors, singers and poets, and a dedicated facility to showcase and nurture the artistic talents of

our town and surrounding parishes has been long sought after. Our goal is to help provide this much needed asset in the not too distant future. Immediate Plans and Initial targets

The project is currently in feasibility stage, with architectural concept designs already evolving swiftly and initial fundraising taking place this month. It is hoped that throughout 2014 we can achieve the following goals:

• Formation of sub committee

• Visit various similar theatres and consult with their managers re: pitfalls/advice

• Assessment of facility needs and capacity requirements

• Completion of Comprehensive Business Plan

• Thorough investigation of all available grant funding
(Arts/Education/Historic restoration/Urban regeneration etc.)

• Completion of all concept drawings and 3d models (in-house)

• Initial pricing & Tender estimates

• Preparation of planning permission drawings (with local architects)

• Periodic presentations to suitable investors, sponsors and donators

• Consultation within our local community (with relevant experts in various fields)

• Publication of regular news updates to the public so the project’s development remains transparent and welcoming to the extended Carrickmacross community. Including bi-annual public meetings. Since launching “The Workhouse Theatre Project – Mission Statement” to the Carrickmacross online community, the response has been astounding. In less than a week the page received 400 fans and numerous people have made clear their intent to help out in any way they can. Words of endorsement for the project from people such as well known singer-songwriter Declan O’Rourke, highlight just how much the project has captured the hearts and minds of the general public. A collection of the NorthEast’s finest original musicians have also donated their time and talents for our first fundraiser event on January 31st in Carrickmacross, ensuring the project gets off to a flying start. We feel it is important to stress that this is a community project that can only be truly successful with the good will, ambition and hard work of the community. With that in mind, we highly encourage any of you with ideas for fundraising, sponsorship, grant aid and commercial investment to get in touch and become part of this exciting and ambitious project. We seek people with a positive “Can do” attitude who are self-motivated and highly driven. If that’s you please contact us. Contact: Kevin Gartlan or David Marron at Carrickmacross Workhouse
