VISIONS & VOICES: A Celebration of Visual Art, Writing & Spoken Word 🧑‍🎨 🎨 🖼️ 🎙️📖

This Culture Night, HeARTlands Arts Community, in collaboration with Longford Writers Group, invites you to join us in Longford Town for an evening of conversation, creativity, and community storytelling.

At the heart of our event 'Visions & Voices' will be a series of lively, MC-led artists' panel discussions and hosted conversations, bringing artists & writers from the Heartlands Region together to talk openly about the ideas and experiences behind their work.

We'll explore creativity and inspiration, artistic practice, wellbeing, sustainability, the realities of creative life and the many different paths that bring people to art.

But we don't simply want you to hear from our artists.

We want you to experience their work too!

Throughout the venue, we will present an exhibition of original work by the HeARTlands artists taking part in our panels. Artwork will extend beyond the event space and into other areas of the venue, inviting visitors to encounter art as they move through the building.

The work will also be available to purchase, creating an opportunity to discover and directly support artists working within our community.

Longford Writers Group will also have a fine selection of their books on display and for sale.

Following our artists' & writers conversations, attention will turn from the visual to the spoken word, with a specially curated programme of readings by members of Longford Writers Group.

Visions & Voices is about bringing two creative worlds together.

It's about seeing the artwork and meeting the person who made it.

Hearing writers give voice to their own words.

Discovering what inspires creative people.

Sharing ideas.

Starting conversations.

And creating a space where artists, writers and audiences can simply come together in community, camradery & creative support.

We hope you'll join us for a very special celebration of the creativity that exists here in Longford and across Ireland's Heartlands.

Art knows no borders 🎨 🖌️ 🖼️ 🇮🇪 🌎

On our small island, it doesn't take long to cross a county line — but sometimes, in doing so, we cross something much greater.

We travel through changing landscapes to meet other artists: with friendship, curiosity, openness and a willingness to share, listen and collaborate.

The countryside shifts around us — fields become boglands, stone walls give way to forests, familiar roads lead somewhere new. And as the landscape changes, so can our thinking.

New places offer new perspectives.
New encounters open new possibilities.
New friendships can shift the landscapes within us too — our minds, our hearts, our creative practice.

At HeARTlands, we believe creativity thrives when we cross borders rather than build them — between counties, countries, disciplines, ideas, experiences and ways of seeing.

We want to showcase, celebrate, tour and share the work of artists, writers and creatives from Ireland’s Heartlands, connecting local creative voices with audiences in Ireland and beyond.

But we also want to create something deeper:

A space to meet.
A space to wonder.
A space to share what we know.
A space to ask questions.
A space to collaborate.
A space to make new friendships.
A space where our creative landscapes can expand.

Because sometimes, the most important journey is not the one we take across the map…

but the one that happens within us.

The moments in between…💚

Not every important moment at a HeARTlands Get Together happens around the main conversation or presentation.

Sometimes it is the quiet exchange across the table.

A shared laugh.
Someone listening intently.
A story being told.
A new friendship beginning.
A cup of tea shared.
A moment of curiosity.
A connection made almost without noticing.

These small moments matter.

They are often where genuine connection begins — in the spaces between the planned activities, when people relax, open up and simply spend time together.

These photographs capture some of those moments from our evening in Offaly with Rosemarie Langtry Artist — little glimpses of the warmth, laughter, conversation and companionship that made the evening so special.

Because at HeARTlands, the gathering itself is part of the art.

We come together to share our creative practice, but also to share our stories, our experiences, our questions, our laughter and our lives.

And sometimes, the smallest moments leave the biggest impression.

✨ **A very special HeARTlands Get Together in Offaly** ✨

There are some evenings that are difficult to put into words — and our HeARTlands Creative Community gathering at the beautiful home and studio of encaustic artist Rosemarie Langtry Artist was one of them.

We travelled to Offaly Offaly News Offaly Arts and gathered together for an evening of art, creativity, friendship, food, laughter, stories and a whole lot of heart.

From the moment we arrived, Rosemarie made us feel completely at home, inviting us into her gorgeous renovated old cottage.

Outdoors, friend & fellow artist Niamh O'connor had beautifully arranged the table and surrounding space, creating a warm and welcoming place for us all to gather around together. There was an abundance of food, tea, coffee, soft drinks and wine, creating the perfect setting for an evening of friendship, creativity and connection.

And then there was the art.

Rosemarie generously shared her expertise through an encaustic demonstration, giving us an opportunity to see her creative process up close. She entertained us, inspired us and left us with a whole new appreciation for this fascinating medium.

We were given the opportunity to explore Rosemarie’s three separate studio and workshop spaces, each offering its own glimpse into her creative world and later, as the evening unfolded, we gathered around the garden table.

And that's when something rather special happened.

We stopped talking *about* art and simply started talking — about creativity, life, stories, experiences, learning, making, living and everything in between.

As the evening grew darker, the twinkling lights along the fence began to glow. We sat together late into the evening, reluctant to leave.

It was magical ✨

A huge and heartfelt thank you to Rosemarie 🙏 for opening not only her beautiful home and studio to us, but her heart as well. 💚

And thank you to everyone who travelled, contributed, shared, laughed, listened and helped make the evening what it was.

Because this is what HeARTlands is really about.

Yes, we want to 'showcase, celebrate, tour and share the work of artists, writers and creatives from Ireland’s Heartlands', connecting local creative voices with audiences in Ireland and beyond.

But we also want to create something deeper.

A space where creative people can meet one another.

A space where knowledge can be shared freely.

A space where we can talk honestly about the joys and challenges of being creative.

A space where friendships can grow.

A space where nobody needs to arrive with all the answers.

A space where there is time to sit around a table, share a story, listen to someone else's, and discover that we have more in common than we imagined.

'A Community of Creativity, Connection & Belonging.'

These experiences — our monthly Get Togethers, our shared adventures, our visits to studios and exhibitions, our conversations around tables — are at the very heart of HeARTlands.

Because creativity doesn't have to be a solitary journey.

We can walk the creative path together.

We can learn from one another.

We can celebrate one another.

And we can make a little more room around the table.

The Heart of HeARTlands: Why Creative Community Events Matter

There is something quietly powerful about gathering with others to make, write, imagine, and share. At HeARTlands Get Togethers our focus is on creating together, learning from one another, and building a community where everyone is valued.

One of our strengths as a community is the generosity of our artists, writers, and practitioners. Established creatives & professionals openly share their experience, offering insights that cannot be found in books alone. They speak honestly about their own creative journeys—the successes, the challenges, and the lessons learned along the way. Their guidance encourages others to experiment, take risks, and develop confidence in their own creative voice.

Every person brings their own experiences, perspectives, and stories, creating a rich exchange of ideas. Conversations are inspiring & people discover new ways of seeing the world through each other's eyes. Skills are exchanged, knowledge is passed on, and creative energy flows in every direction.

In a world where many people experience isolation or spend much of their time online,
Heartlands offer more than a programme of exhibitions & events.

Our Get Togethers offer something increasingly precious: a sense of belonging. New members become part of a welcoming creative community where everyone is encouraged, every voice is valued, and every contribution matters.

We offer spaces where knowledge is shared generously, where artists and writers inspire one another, and where community grows through conversation, collaboration, and kindness. For us, creativity is not simply about making art; it is about making genuine connections & real friends & creating a better world.

Over tea/coffee, conversation, and shared creativity, strangers become friends, ideas become possibilities, and individuals become part of something much bigger—a vibrant, supportive creative community that continues to inspire long after our events.

Our next Get Together is Friday 7th August. If you would like to join us let us know in the comments or pm us for more details. We'd be delighted to welcome you 💚
