Located in the heart of Ballymun, axis is an arts & community resource centre which houses a Theatre, Café, Crèche, Conference Centre, Art Studio, Music Studio & Rehearsal Rooms, Dance Studio & is home to a number of Community Development Organisations. Axis core service provision and programmes are funded by the Social Regeneration Fund, Dublin City Council, The Arts Council and Pobal across relevant departments.

Announcing new show!

As part of our free Cruinniú na nÓg programme in Axis on Saturday 6th June, Dublin Youth Dance Company will run a free dance workshop and performance in the Axis Dance Studio for children aged 6-12.

Through rhythm, movement games and dance, participants can explore creativity, build confidence, and challenge their minds and bodies in an enjoyable and supportive environment.

Tickets are free and must be booked in advance: https://www.axisballymun.ie/cruinniu-2026. You are welcome to attend both workshop and performance, or just one event.

✨ Axis Assemble artist spotlight: Angelica Santander

Angelica Santander is a clown, director and early years practitioner, her work combines theatrical, circus and clowning elements. During this Bursary time she will be developing a new clown show called No Spring Chicken in collaboration with Richard Kane and Johnie Kavanagh under the guidance of Alain Servaint. The team will explore the reality of aging as a performer and long-lasting friendship through the lens of upside-down clown logic.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing some information about the talented artists on our Axis Assemble artist development programme, and the projects they're working on.⁠

First up: Andy Hourihan is an actor from the North Side who loves dark comedy. He will use the Axis Assemble bursary to help develop his latest idea 'Waiting at the Gate', dealing with themes of mortality, grief, love, conformity, bigotry and speaking out against those in power.

We are delighted to announce Rachel Thornton as the 2026 Axis Play:Ground artist ✨

Rachel Thornton is a Dublin-based writer. A three-time winner of Best Original Writing at the Irish Society Drama Awards (2022–24), her work fuses Irish myth and pop culture with dark humour and heartfelt explorations of human connection. She will be using the bursary to develop a sci-fi horror comedy based on Ireland's Regency era.

Our Axis Play:Ground programme is an eight-month opportunity for an artist with disabilities/a disabled artist to grow their creative practice and develop new ideas.
