With regret, I'm pulling the plug on the Monday night gigs. Single-figure attendances are too frequent to warrant either the artists' time, or the venue's (Tutty's normally close on Mondays). It's a common problem, especially post-Covid, as I've learned from talking both to artists and other promoters.
It's a shame to see the tradition, started by Larry Roddy and carried on by Roy Thompson, fade into history, but it seems to have reached the end of its natural life.

However, I'm hoping to end Monday night music with a bang, with the last gig coming up on Monday 6th November. Acclaimed Cork songwriter Cormac O'Caoimh leaves his Leeside lair play Tutty's, fresh from the release of his new highly-acclaimed album "Where The World Begins" - his follow-up to 2020'a "Swim Crawl Walk Run", which was named album-of-the-week on RTE Radio 1 on its release.

Thanks to everyone who's come along to the gigs in our new home in Tutty's these last few months, it means a lot to the performers (and myself) and, without you all, we couldn't keep the important tradition going. (There have been times, both for Roy and myself, where we felt we'd be falling victim to Bewley's/Clery's syndrome - the old "No! I always go there, they can't close it down!". "And when were you last there?" "Ehhhhh...but".

And special thanks also to Tom and Paula for making us welcome in Tutty's.

There will be a break for a couple of months during the summer, but I'm in the process of lining up gigs from late August to early December, hoping to space them about three weeks apart (though that's not always possible), to ease wallet pressures.

For those who are interested in coming along, but are not on the BAG mailing list, please e-mail me at [email protected] and I can add you to receive updates.

For those of you who are on the list, but don't appear to getting e-mails, please check your "spam" folders! I use Mailchimp for group e-mails, which often default to spam, unless the receiver re-designates them.

Hope everyone has a lovely summer, and hope to see you back in Tutty's in a few months.

Next gig is on Monday 24th April, and features bluegrass/American band Gypsy Wind, playing their first Irish gig on their first tour of Ireland, in
Hailing from Florida, they are a 3-piece, comprising Kristen Oliphant (guitar & flute), Michael Godwin (guitar/banjo/mandolin) and Tug Winthrop (resonator guitar). Ranging from bluegrass to Americana, Gypsy to folk and more, they have supported the Del McCoury Band and Norman ("Oh Brother, Where Art Thou") Blake - while Michael has the distinction of playing with the great Bill Monroe on what is reckoned to be his last public stage appearance. (It was in Tarpon Springs FLA, where Monroe was wintering to escape the cold of Nashville, and he joined the house band in playing a 30-minute set at Terry T's Texas Rose Steakhouse.)

Doors at 8.30pm, music 9-11pm, adm €15.

A great way to kick off week!
