Find Your Voice with Samuel Yakura: Free Poetry Workshops, a €200 Poetry Slam and a Creative Walk in Donegal

Whether you’re an experienced poet, an aspiring spoken-word performer or someone who’s always wanted to express yourself creatively, Earagail Arts Festival 2026 is inviting you to discover your voice this July.

Acclaimed Nigerian-Irish poet, playwright and performer Samuel Yakura will take up a special residency at the festival, leading a series of free workshops, hosting a high-energy Poetry Slam with a €200 cash prize, and collaborating on a unique creative walk through Glenveagh National Park.

Treasure Each Voice. 🪶 The 2026 Frances Browne Poetry Competition is officially open - and we want to hear from you, whether you're writing in English, Irish, or Ulster-Scots.

Now in its 18th year, this is one of the few competitions anywhere that celebrates all three languages of the Finn Valley side by side. Beginner or seasoned, local or living halfway round the world - if you've a poem in a drawer that's never seen daylight, now's the time.

📌 €250 top prize per language

📌 No line limit, enter as many poems as you like

📌 Local category for East Donegal poets (Lifford-Stranorlar MD) - no extra fee

📌 Deadline: midnight, Wednesday 19 August 2026
