Traditional Song Workshops for Children

I was in a school recently where I was told that Junior and Senior Infants had realy enjoyed learning a song, from one of the videos I made back in 2021, which is in my ‘The Frog and Mouse’ songbook (still available to order at www.aileenlambert.com).

In fact its the title track, ‘The Frog and the Mouse’ which I got from the singing of P Joe Hayes (thanks to Jim Carroll), father of the famous fiddler Martin Hayes. The children, however, know it as “The Liggum Taddy Song” (love it!) as these words are part of a repeated line of vocables that appears throughout the song.

Delighted to learn the the videos are being used in the classroom and just thought I’d give it a share here. If you just want to hear the song (rather than the teaching video) then skip to 13:50.

CALLING YOUNG SINGERS!
I’m delighted to be the Bean a' Tí for the first session at the Traditional Singers’ Club at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2024 this Thursday at 12noon in the Opera House!

The focus will be on young singers from teenagers right down to the youngest of singers! This family friendly event is free of charge and no booking is required. Looking foward to a great variety of songs and singers!

Well done to Gavin Byrne, John O’ Byrne, Phil Berry and Ronan Berry for putting together the programme of sessions for the Traditional Singers' Club which will be hosted by various singers from across the country and beyond. I'll stick the poster in the comments below. The venue for all sessions is the lovely Festival Room in the National Opera House, except for the final session on Monday which is in the groups traditional home - Mary's Bar. Hope to see some of you there!

♥️ 🎶 I’m delighted to be the host of the first of the Traditional Singing Sessions being presented at the Traditional Singers Club at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Wexford Town this year! Well done to Gavin Byrne, John O’ Byrne, Phil Berry and Ronan Berry for putting together this programme of sessions which will be hosted by various singers from singing clubs across the country. The venue for all sessions is the lovely Festival Room in the National Opera House.
This first session will focus on young singers and promises to be a wonderful way to kick off the singing sessions which will continue til Sunday with a final session on Monday 12th in Mary’s Bar the friendly home the Wexford Traditional Singers monthly session takes place. ♥️ 🎶

Lovers of traditional music, song and dance!!!

The Bank Holiday weekend is upon us and there is a special concert of traditional music, song and dance in the rural village of Ballindaggin, Co. Wexford on Saturday night.

If you want to hear tunes and songs of the finest order - join us at 8pm in the hall for a two-hour show which celebrates our traditional arts and culture as part of The Wexford May Bush Festival.

🎵 🌼 7pm this evening, Tuesday April 30th 🌳 🎀

If you are free this evening, join us at the hall in Ballindaggin for the annual procession and decoration of the village May Bush in the Community Park.

The procession will be led by the 2024 May Queen & King with music provided by St. Colman's Pipe Band. Everyone is welcome to follow procession and this year we will have a display of mini May Bushes. Please bring your own painted egg shells, flowers and ribbons for the village May Bush.

Followed by Music, Songs and Dancing thanks to the sounds of local traditional musicians Deirdre Jordan, Anna Mai White, Paddy Joyce, Jim Murphy, Martin Connolly, Mick Sinnott, Mick Tobin and friends. Childrens songs and dancing led by Aileen Lambert and pupils from Ballidaggin National School.

🌳 🎀 🥚 “Here we go Round the May Bush” 🎵 ♥️ with Hillmount Montessori aka “Joan Doyles”!

Thanks to Joan and co. for having me in this morning to share the song with her gang at Hillmount Montessori, Ballindaggin.

They’d already used my video to begin to learn the song so they were primed and ready to practise singing it, marching around in a circle in the chorus and doing the actions for the verses! Even the youngest of the children were really into it - so lovely to see!

Each child went home with a flier with the event details and lyrics on it, and a QR code so they scan it to be brought to YouTube to sing along with me!🎵 ♥️

🌳 🎀 🥚 “Here we go Round the May Bush” 🎵 ♥️

Just paid a visit to classes from Junior Infants up to 3rd class in Ballindaggin NS and shared this song in advance of our May Bush gathering at 7pm on Tuesday 30th April, May Eve.
Many of children have been involved in decorating the village May Bush over the years and also decorate one in their own home. They totally lapped up the little song and we’re looking forward to singing it together around the May Bush with whoever can make it along to the event.
Each child went home with a flier with the event details and lyrics on it, and a QR code so they scan it to be brought to YouTube to sing along with me!🎵 ♥️
