Owing to the passing of Mary Kilbane, beloved mother of our Chairperson, Majella Uí Ghallachobhair, the offices of Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla in Crumpaun and Achill Sound, the Achill Experience Aquarium and Visitor Centre, and the Pobal Ghaeilg' Acla office will be closed on Thursday, 10th September 2026.
We offer our deepest sympathies to her husband, Anthony Edward; her daughters, Majella, Breedge and Mairéad; her son, Anthony; and their families.

May Mary rest in peace.

🐟🐠MEET SOME OF OUR RESIDENTS 🐟🐠

Here at the Achill Experience we have over 150 different marine and aquatic species and we thought it would be great to introduce some of them to everyone, today it is the very charming blackspot sea bream 🐟🐠.

The blackspot seabream (Pagellus bogaraveo) is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Sparidae, the seabreams and porgies. It is widespread in the Eastern Atlantic from Norway to Mauritania, including Macaronesia and the western Mediterranean. It is an important species to fisheries, and overfishing has sadly led to it being classified as Near Threatened.
