Night Diving in Raja Ampat. It’s an eerie experience - beautiful and terrifying. Particular creatures come out at night, like Octopus, Walking Sharks, and Scorpion fish. Feels like the beginning or end of the world. We all have a “torch” to light the way and look for hidden critters. It helps us see each other because one really doesn’t want to get separated from the dive buddies!

Back on dry land and grateful for the beautiful people and underwater world of Raja Ampat Indonesia. 3-4 dives a day wore me out but I loved every minute. Underwater Drawing book came with me every dive and my camera on most. Post dive I had moments to make memory paintings and drawings to take home. Looking forward to what develops in the studio!

In Raja Amat Indonesia, diving in underwater gardens of the greatest variety of coral on the planet, healthy reefs, color and bizarre creatures. A few of my photos of anemones with clown fish- the mama is the biggest and when she dies a male transitions to female to be the mama! There are many examples of male/ female change in fish! It’s in nature- “god” made it that way!!! Giant clams are my favs too- the patterns and colors are unique to each and amazing. Drawings from memory- one “night dive” that I’ll NEVER forget. Frogfish with eggs, walking sharks, scorpion fish all come out at night!!

In Yogyacarta airport to go to Jakarta then to Sorong for our Raja Ampat ( diving) part of our trip. This area is mostly Muslim and extremely kind and curious people. Very different than Middle Eastern Muslims. Influenced by Sufi, Hindu and Buddhists who were majority here before Muslims. Practice Animism- worshipping nature and embracing all people as equals. The airport scene looks like anywhere- but the third photo shows a woman who wanted her picture taken with me as John and I are the rare white people here.

In Yogyakarta, the house and collection of artist known as Affandi. Lived in Yogyakarta and build this amazing place. First image I’m standing under a wall piece of Gandhi, Lao Tze, and Indonesian sage. Buried with his wife here, notice chairs made of bicycle tires ( comfortable), paintings are expressive and emotional. Affandi

According to Robert Hubble , the NY Times reported this- In recent months, Google, Reddit, Discord and Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, have received hundreds of administrative subpoenas from the Department of Homeland Security. Google, Meta and Reddit complied with some of the requests, the government officials said.

In the subpoenas, the department asked the companies for identifying details of accounts that do not have a real person’s name attached and that have criticized ICE or pointed to the locations of ICE agents.

The tech companies, which can choose whether or not to provide the information, have said they review government requests before complying. Some of the companies notified the people whom the government had requested data on and gave them 10 to 14 days to fight the subpoena in court.

Ah … the beauty of a palette based on coral reefs. Especially when it’s February outside. Share your pallettes! Always curious how painters arrange their pallettes and make color decisions. I don’t have a strategy- but love to know what others do!

One of our favorite places, Little Cayman Island. Celebrating two birthdays- mine, January 20, (70!) and my younger husband John at 69 today. Diving together is pure joy! Can you spot the lobster inside the big tube sponge? He’s big so you can imagine how big the sponge is! scubadiverlife

My WOW-Women of Walden dunking group hasn’t been able to do our dunks for weeks because Walden is frozen. Today I went to see if there was a spot to dunk. Most everything was still frozen but I noticed a young man creating a little hole to crouch in. He said he was listening to song Lovely Day for its full 4 minutes. It was a lovely day!

Harvard University’s Museum of Comparative Zoology has the famous collection of Glass Flowers by the father and son team Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka. In addition the team created over 400 invertebrate models in glass for use in teaching about invertebrate sea creatures. A small selection are on display and one of my favorite, as you can imagine. If you can’t get to the museum there is information and images online. The glass flowers are also a knockout!!
