Artist Statement
“Whispers of the Ancient Sky”
This painting is not merely a depiction of an ancient temple landscape, but an emotional reconstruction of memory, spirituality, and silence within the Javanese highlands. Inspired by the sacred atmosphere of the ancient mountain temples, the work transforms architecture into a living psychological presence.
The dramatic sky, fractured brushstrokes, and glowing light are used to express the tension between permanence and impermanence — between stone structures that endure for centuries and the fleeting emotional state of human existence. The temples stand as silent witnesses beneath a turbulent sky, embodying both resilience and spiritual isolation.
Rather than pursuing realism, the painting embraces expressive distortion, aggressive textures, and visceral color contrasts to evoke an inner landscape. The layered impasto and chaotic movement of paint reflect emotional turbulence, while the luminous horizon suggests transcendence, memory, and sacred energy emerging from darkness.
The work is deeply rooted in the atmosphere of the Indonesian landscape and spiritual heritage, yet interpreted through a contemporary expressionist language. It seeks to create not a place to observe, but a place to emotionally enter.
